how much are you spending on food shopping a week?

Just to make you all feel superior we spend about £130 a week for five of us and 2 cat's - I spent £99 in tesco last friday and my teenage kids still nagged that by last night there was nothing to eat, by nothing they mean chocolate biscuits and crisps. I work full time to pay for it all so no time to shop around but when I do go to our local farm shop it's v expensive although they do sell their own meat and ready meals. My husband doesn't think we're over spending if you think of it as £26 per person per week. We don't buy alcohol and you can see below where I stock up on toiletries on offers.
I begining to feel lonely until I read your post.
I do read the oldstyle boards and had some recipes off there - I just don't bulk up the meals with lentils and cheap meat. I'm still lost though on what they all eat apart from the one meal usually put up.
Mine are the same, if it doesn't drop out of the fridge/cupboard ready to eat, we have nothing to eat

You might be surprised how small a " portion" of fruit and veg actually is.

Heres an old thread i started when I had an empty purse, very useful:beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
There are a few threads in OS about living for 50p a day - but this was without fresh fruit, and with everything made from scratch, including bread, and also very little meat.
£3 a week is 43p a day so it would be nice if Dave would post his actual meal plan because three pages in and it sounds a bit far-fetched!0 -
It's all well and good if your local supermarket reduces their stuff to low prices. Our doesn't.
One Tesco Extra I went to when I stayed with a friend, had loads of premium loaves reduced to 4p a loaf. They had packs of chicken breast fillets for 20p.
Our local Tesco here never reduces bread to below 50-60p a loaf, depending on brand. Meat is never reduced by more than 15%.
If I could be assured of getting some fab bargains at the Tesco Extra near my friend, I'd make a special trip, but there's no guarantees and the petrol costs could well outweigh any savings made.
Sorry, Dave, but I just don't buy the £3 a week on food. You say you only drink tap water and the £3 is on food, but you still haven't said exactly what you eat. You surely can't just be eating the reduced bread out of the freezer! Do you only eat one meal a day? I can't see how you can possibly eat three good, (and more importantly, healthy) meals a day for that money.
Come on - put your money where your mouth is and tell us exactly what it is you eat. Meal by meal. Day by day.
We are five adults and a dog, and I spend well in excess of £120 a week.0 -
I wonder why dave4545454 has not responded to any of our requests for a menu plan when he's been replying to other threads on this forum
I have to say, though, if it isn't true I don't really see the point in lying about it

We spend about £50 a week for 2 adults but about £15 of that is usually on the pets we have so really it's about £35 for us. That includes cleaning stuff as well.0
