  • I do a food shop every 2 weeks and we usually spend around £65. So per week around £32.50 - thats for 2 adults and 1 child. That includes cleaning items, toiletries, dog food etc etc.

Before I began meal planning and being careful with the food budget we were spending around £62 a week! We still eat very healthy and well, I make a lot of my own things now - bread, homemade chicken nuggets, homemade fish fingers etc. I love bulk cooking too!

Our weekly housekeeping budget is £70, £15 of which goes on fuel for me to get to work so we spend approx £55 -£60 a week. As an earlier poster said, we try to moneysave on everything except food. You do get what you pay for. We are two adults and two toddler boys! We do go over sometimes but it's always at the expense of the later weeks budget so it evens itself out eventually....

  • Wow, I spend £100 per week on Tesco online, all our meat comes from our local Butcher, and all toiletries and nappies etc come from Boots. I had never really considered our expenditure as an issue, but I am going to have to try cutting down somewhere!

    and we eat pretty well
including a cat and cleaning stuff

so what does your cat taste like then...? sorry - couldn't resist!!
  • So this is how we normally do it:

save pennies/put a bit aside each month for 6 months then do a massive Costco shop for household stuff (cleaning, loo roll, toiletries etc). We don't count that as part of our food expenditure and have a seperate budget for it.

Food - we plan meals for the month (really!), do a massive tesco shop on pay day with as many things we can freeze as possible. We then have £10 a week for fresh, lunch box stuff and pub money. So tesco + 1 wk fresh/lunches came to £86.71 - leaving £14 to spread over 3 weeks...eek! We can do it, but dietary restrictions (wheat & gluten) make it harder.

I wish I could belong to Costco but neither of us qualify. I used to go years ago with a friend but she let her membership expire and hasn't bothered since.

  • i've managed to get my weekly shop down to £3 a week (one person), how much are you spending a week?

I think us mere mortals here would like to see how you manage this. Could you post a meal plan of , for instance, what you ate in the last 7 days please?
I've read threads before of people spending pennies on food, but when they actually write it down things don't always seem to add up. I don't mean you are out to deceive us, Dave, but it's always good to see things laid out in black and white.

    Thanks.

Oh and I spend about £50-60 a week for 2 adults and 2 teens, and includes all toiletries, cleaning and laundry stuff, and a few cans and some wine over the month.

    It's only a game
