I've read threads before of people spending pennies on food, but when they actually write it down things don't always seem to add up. I don't mean you are out to deceive us, Dave, but it's always good to see things laid out in black and white.
Thanks.
Oh and I spend about £50-60 a week for 2 adults and 2 teens, and includes all toiletries, cleaning and laundry stuff, and a few cans and some wine over the month.
Thats what I was trying to ask in my not so subtle manner.
What I'd also be interested to know is if the £3 and all the other low amounts people have quoted (under £40) are for full shops or top up shops.
I spend way too much for 2 adults 1 child and 2 cats, between £60-£70 a week.2011 Sealed Pot Challenge #1238 hoping for £250 ~ saved £743.32

Between 2 adults and a dog on a normal week approx £90. On a week where meats are involved (we buy meats once a month in a grocery order - it is £200). So
£90 x 3 = £270
+ £200
= £470/month
+ some odds and ends from other places = £40
Total: £510/month
= £127.50 /week.
We rarely eat out (maybe once a month). We eat well and eat mostly organic food wherever we have a choice. We don't buy wine, but will buy about 1 bottle of spirits a month. We use good meats for the dog and make his own meals supplemented with canned + dry food.0 -
Just to make you all feel superior we spend about £130 a week for five of us and 2 cat's - I spent £99 in tesco last friday and my teenage kids still nagged that by last night there was nothing to eat, by nothing they mean chocolate biscuits and crisps. I work full time to pay for it all so no time to shop around but when I do go to our local farm shop it's v expensive although they do sell their own meat and ready meals. My husband doesn't think we're over spending if you think of it as £26 per person per week. We don't buy alcohol and you can see below where I stock up on toiletries on offers.0

Gosh - some people are SO good at this froogle-ness!
Me and my partner used to spend £90 a week on food (no alcohol) when we lived in Southampton - we both worked full time so it wasnt so bad.
Now we've moved and both back at Uni so had to cut back. Now spend ~£50 a week tesco online. But have pets which cost a small fortune. Food (pellets and fresh veg) and bedding for the rabbits is £26 -food and £8 hay/bedding and thats with us not buying straw anymore and shredding our junk mail. Kitten are now on 65p a box dry food, share one whiskers pouch a day (buy in bulk when on offer £7.70 for 36) and cat litter is around £21 /month.
£200 on food for us
~£70 on pets per month :eek::eek: have only just worked out they cost that much... I'm off to seek out pet money saving board!!!0 -
Is there anywhere on here that gives help with shopping lists and meal plans? I am managing about £80-£100 a week for 3 adults cleaning stuff an dog and cat stuff. I struggle so I must be being dense. Or we over eat maybe if I could see actually what people buy and what they do with it the penny might drop and I can see where I can make changes.

yes head over to MONEY SAVING OLD STYLE - plenty of v helpful people will be able to help
We probably spend about 45 pw that includes all organic dog food for madam and lots of nice food, no scrimping really, we coud cut this back. Doesnt include booze though, but does cover lunches
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -

well for starters i dont drink coffee or tea so i never buy any drinks from supermarkets. the only thing i drink is tap water which is best for you, i have at least 2 litres a day to keep me hydrated and healthy.
so the £3 i spend each week is just on food and no drink, that saves a lot of moneyMartin has asked me to tell you I'm about to cut the cheese, pull my finger.0 -
Can I ask Dave please, what sort of meals do you eat? and does your £3 include cleaning products toiletries etc?***Dont save what is left after spending, spend what is left after saving***0
