By my rough calculations and bearing in mind that I do not know the portion sizes:
Wholemeal bread (say 4 slices) 280 cals.
Beans (small tin) 140 cals
Blackberries (a punnet's worth) 50 cals
backed potato (largeish) 280 cals
peas (a lot) 100 cals
That is only 850 cals - and hardly any protein, you've not reached 5 a day and you've had no calcium. Your body is not a temple, it is a bedsit! Even if you double the baked beans portion it's still hardly a shed!
that's why i'm slim:cool:Martin has asked me to tell you I'm about to cut the cheese, pull my finger.0 -
Yes both peas and potato are veg but that is not a balanced or healthy meal, you have no protein in it. According to your 'menu' for yesterday you didn't have any dairy so no calcium. If you eat like that all the time then it is not a healthy balanced diet.
i had fish today, plenty of protein in that.
and i forgot to mention that i also have a couple of apples a day as i have an apple tree in the gardenMartin has asked me to tell you I'm about to cut the cheese, pull my finger.0 -
i can't see where you are getting calcium in your diet?0

I know a place where I can buy 3 bags of fruit and/or veg for 99p. They are usually very good to make smoothies or soups/stews etc out of. The bags are mostly produce that are over ripe and/or blemished in some way. 9 of these bags would cost £2.97 and would be enough for 5 a day over a week.
3 tins of basic beans would cost £0.87, a bag of rice costs £0.73, 3 tins of basic peeled tomatoes £0.99, bag of wholemeal flour to make bread £0.99 and yeast £0.56.
I can make about 9 litres of soya milk for 99p. That means if I drink 1 litre of soya milk a day it woud cost me around 77p for that alone for a week.
The above would give you smoothies made with soya milk for breakfast each morning, beans on toast for 6 of the days for lunch, soup with bread/stew with rice or bread for each day for dinner. You could easily make a soup and stew or similar for the day for lunch and dinner that you don't have beans on toast for. Also just shy of a litre of soya milk (used some for smoothie) a day to drink with tap water also.
£2.97+£0.87+£0.73+£0.99+£0.99+£0.56+£0.77 =£7.88. Not bad really if you have to buy everything if you have no store to use
. I have managed to buy food needed for a week before for under £4 but I had things like pasta/rice/soya beans/tinned veg etc in to make up the rest. I am a vegan woman. My OH is a lovely omni guy

Why not just post your weekly menu so we can all see how it is possible to live healthy on £3. Also which shops you shop at.
I am still not convinced it can be done

i only ever buy milk or cheese when it's on offer, i wont ever pay full price.
like the same with bread, i never pay more than 30p for a loaf. "value" loaves are around 50p so i wait till supermarkets such as my local sommerfields knock 75% off warbutons/hovis/freshly made baked bread which brings them down to the 30p mark then grab a load and freeze themMartin has asked me to tell you I'm about to cut the cheese, pull my finger.0 -

But even grabbing 3 you have already spent almost a third of your weekly budget, :rolleyes:Anyone can cuddle but only the Welsh can cwtch
