how much are you spending on food shopping a week?

I spent £10 - £15 a week on food at the moment for one adult. I could do it for less by growing my own veg and going to the shop late for bargains.
The first is coming next year, and the second never, cos I cant drive and there's only day buses.
If I ate like the OP I would probably keel over, I get really hungry as it is and already eat three meals a day plus snacks.August grocery challenge: £50
Spent so far: £37.40 :A0 -
There's 2 of us and a dog and 2 cats and we spend about £40 a week on food, drink, cleaning stuff, etc.
Plus petrol on top of that, though, but thats only about £30 every 2 or 3 weeks.0 -
We are 2 adults and 2 dogs. Last month I kept a spreadsheet detailing absolutely everything I spent on food (including takeaways), cleaning stuff, etc.
The total came to a staggering £346.51!! However that included (an embarrassing) £123.51 on takeaways and junk food. This is a lot less than what we used to spend and we've cut out the takeaways this month and we'll come in at a lot less.
I've started buying half a lamb from my farm shop at £6.20 a kilo and they butcher it how I want and that probably lasts us about 6 weeks (we eat a lot of lamb!).0 -
If it's any help to anyone at all, I can post a full month's budget menu which I did last October. It lists the menu, exactly what food I purchased (and how much it cost), plus the things I already had in store cupboard (dried stuff, spices etc). That particular month came in at £38.49 including toiletries for a household of 2.
Dave - I'd also be interested in seeing your exact menu for a full week. Given that you are shop-buying everything, including bread, it just doesn't add up to me

I would be very interesting in this if you have tim
So often people post some incredibly low food spend but won't say how they did it, especially with regards to what they already had in stock.
also I think there are two issues being discussed in this thread - how cheap you can eat, and how cheap you can eat healthily. Beans, toast, potato and peas certainly isn't the latter.
Only two of your 5-a-day for a start! But it is arguably a useful skill to have for crisis times when money is really low. August grocery challenge: £50

About £90 per week for 9 of us and a dog.
We cook all meals from scratch, shop online at Tesco (which means no chucking stuff in the trolley that we walk past and just fancy but don't actually need) and stick to a already written list (after deciding on meals for the week first).
We buy most of our fruit, veg, meat and fish from our local market which is really cheap - for example 20 satsumas for £1, carrier bag of bananas for £1 etc.0 -
Between £90-£95 per week for 2 adults, 2 children and a cat. If it wasn't for the OH who insists on Ben and Jerry's ice cream, Pepsi, Heinz beans and mayonnaise, king prawns, meat included in every meal and something nice to take in for his lunch every day, (such as smoked salmon ), I reckon i could knock it down by about a third.
A possibility would be to get rid of OH.........:DIt's wouldn't have not wouldn't of, shouldn't have not shouldn't of and couldn't have not couldn't of. Geddit?0 -
I think I spend about £80 per week for three adults and a cat. We have meat or fish every day, I make my own bread and we have lots of fruit and veg. I do buy stuff when its on offer and tend to get the 3 packs of meat for £10 from whichever supermarket I use. We probably use about £4.00 in milk. Probably could go lower but I think the effort would outweigh the gain. I work full time as does my husband and I'm away some of the time. Includes steak, prawns, smoked salmon etc as well as some convenience meals.GC Jan £318/£350, Feb £221.84/£300, Mar £200.00/£250 Apr £201.05/£200 May £199.61/£200 June £17.25/£200
