I just rinse when I get home... wipe with loo paper when out.

I clean with soapy water old tooth brush and then soak in miltons (baby bottle sterilser) overnight before drying and putting back in pouch.

    Hi Shelly,

I rinse mine with water at the end of the day - if I have to empty it during the day I just wipe it with tissue and pop back in. You may be lucky and not have to empty it during the day!
At the end of my period I give it a good scrub with an old toothbrush then soak it for half an hour in sterilising fluid (1/4 sterilising tablet in cup of warm water) I sterilise it again just before the start of my next period. hth

Thanks so much for the replies. I think I am going to spend a day or 2 next week hunting out the best deal and get myself one.
I don't mind using pads or tampons on the whole but since I had surgery to remove my cervix (cancer) my periods are much heavier than they were before and I feel 'icky' down there when in full flow.
I'm sure i'll use up my stockpile of pads by being paranoid for a few cycles until I get used to it :D

    Hello!!
I'm on the second day of using my Mooncup for the very first time ever and ... i can confirm it is a resounding success!! After some trepidation, I started to wear mine yesterday while at home...went for coffee with the boyfriend, strolled down the market, went for birthday drinks in Soho, ...and I forgot i was wearing it!:D I am such a happy bunny, and my period is so far totally painless (which only happens very, very rarely). Only a tiny leak once , but I think this is to do with the cup not fully open... best invention ever, I really can't understand why they are not advertised on TV , etc... much, much cleaner than tampons or towels, and it is amazingly comfy.... never ever again back to tampons...what a discovery!!!:T

I have to totally agree with you! But can't help imagining the TV adverts... :o

To be serious I guess its because the mooncups etc are made by little companies with small budgets. Towels and tampons are made by big companies with big budgets, and why would they want to promote something that is a one-off purchase when they can sell us stuff every month?

  • OK - having read the thread, I thought I'd try again with my mooncup which I bought about a year ago... I snipped off the 'stalk' and popped it in this morning. HOWEVER, when I came to try and empty it this afternoon, I had the most awful struggle to get it out again. It seemed to be out of reach and so slippery that I couldn't get hold off it properly - really, I had the nightmare vision of having to go to the GP tomorrow to get it removed!!!

I then rinsed it and - quite bravely in the circumstances I think - popped it back again. I am not sure if it has unfolded properly though, cos it is now leaking a bit. But again, it seems to be fairly high up and difficult to get to.

I guess that perseverance is the key here and sorry to be so graphic, but can anyone give any advice?

Before taking it out you need to break the seal holding it on place. If you just pull down suction tends to keep it there. Squeeze the cup first as high up ad you can and you will feel it release. It may help if you bear down a bit (as if having a poo.

When placing rotate it very slightly and this will ensure it unfolds.

best thing i can recommend, pelvic floor exercises - these should help you push the cup back down, so you can reach it - also if its high up, its usually because your full bowel/bladder has pushed it there out the way, so it should be easier to remove when you are empty (now im getting graphic lol)

But really, the 'bearing down' so you can reach the cup is something that comes with practise. you quickly find out what works, but even i have still have the odd panic moment. havent yet had to call OH for help, but ive been close :rotfl:

I am a complete newbie but all in all I am extremely pleased with my Mooncup. For removal, I find that pinching it from the base (asthey said before , as far up as you can get) , and twisting it slowly while bearing down and pulling the cup out works a treat, I had no problems at all. What I need to perfect is the getting it in - like someone else said before, I find that it opens a bit too quickly. But having said that, I have been wearing it for the past two days and night and I only had to go and adjust it once...it can only get better from there!!

Well I've just tried my mooncup, it arrived this morning, I do fear that using it normally, when I'm in work, I will not be able to get it out, and it might be a struggle getting it in :undecided: so i think maybe for my first period I'll use it while I'm at home, and use tampons while I'm out, hopefully I'll get used to it this way. I do have the fear of getting it stuck while at work and have to get into a compromising position in the ladies loo's :rotfl:
