  • A retroverted cervix should not make a difference as the mooncup sits at the lower end of the vagina and not up in the fornices like a diaphragm. Your vagina still points up and back no matter which way your uterus is flexed.

I got one of these things this week and have a few things I wanted to ask:
    - has anyone ever pushed theirs out unintentionally?

No-you can feel if it is coming towards its exit!

    - has anyone ever dropped it? They do come out slimy...

No-you grab the stem and then squeeze the cup a little and remove the cup

    - if you take it out to go poop, do you just hold onto it?

I take it out, wash it and poop as normal. Do a good cleanup job, wiipng from front to back and never back to front, the put the mooncup back in place

    - after taking out/putting back in, how do you get your pants back up with bloodied fingers?

I keep a clean flannel with me which is for that purpose-if there is a sink by the loo I use a wet flannel and put it in a bag after. Otherwise theres toilet paper.

    - does anyone else have qualms about rinsing it out in a communal sink at work?

No-if you had cut your finger you would wash the blood down the sink. I give the sink a wipe around with tissue and handwash after then rinse it.

    - how do you get the smell of blood off your hands, even after washing in soap and hot water? (or am I just having a Lady Macbeth moment?)

Smell of blood! You are def a lady Macbeth! Theres less smell from using mooncups than from tampons or pads for certain.
    Cheers all!

Answered in between your questions-hope it helps.

  • Definitely a bloke! :rotfl:

I also just wanted to clarify after what I last said - take it out to cut off the stem!
Ineed purlelotus-we don't want any damage! Whats the idea with punk?
A caveman! Cut off his stem! I don't understand why people like this try to take part on this forum. Serves him right if he gets piles! Bleeding piles-piles and piles-go on punkstoner-complain!

purplelotus-re the waterbottles to use in the loo I did try this. Now I suggest putting a couple of pieces of paper in the loo first-a tissue from your pocket maybe. This stops staining of the toilet bowl. Then empty mooncup(paper absorbs some). Sit back a bit on the loo and wash out mooncup into loo. Wash fingers. Reinsert mooncup. Have a wipe. wash hands. Its easyish.

    actually its 12.5% too little.

Like I said these things are luxurys.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Menstrual_cups

The wikipedia page, link shown above shows these things are far from new.

I suspect they have never taken off in the past due to the messy-ness of using them, and the hygene of cleansing them in public.

Most of the females consulted in a quick poll this morning of the females on my msn contact list find the mooncup or similar generic devices utterly disgusting. Mostly because of the slime and stringy-blood.
So you should know that the slime and stringyblood comes from the body into the mooncup or if preffered onto the newspaper or rags to clot in big smelly lumps. Not sure that the ink on newspapers is hygenic to wear attached to your privates for a week! Probably end up with a problem then that requires medical attention.(Oh thats a luxury too)Far better in liquid form down the loo. Unless you have a personal preference of course. Any vampires here???
Who cares if its a new idea or not? Who says they have not taken off in the past? Wikipedia is just a few comments from people like yourself-not necessarily got a clue! Plenty of companies selling them-they must be selling well!

Sorry to all about 3 consecutive post!

TMI warning: I waddle to the sink with pants around ankles - I don't see the point pulling them up before washing and reinserting mooncup, and I wash my hands at the same time. This is only at home though I feel I should add!

I liked your addition of "ish"!!:D

The tissue in the toilet bowl first is a good idea, I'll try that, thanks.
:heart2: Give blood. :female: Use a mooncup.
But ensure the two are not connected!

In answer to your questions Raspababas:
    - has anyone ever pushed theirs out unintentionally?
    Not personally.
    - has anyone ever dropped it? They do come out slimy...
Once at the beginning. Some people use a piece of tissue to get a better grip, but this isn't very common.
    - if you take it out to go poop, do you just hold onto it?
It stays in fine whilst you poo. Your fanny muscles hold onto it very firmly!
    - after taking out/putting back in, how do you get your pants back up with bloodied fingers?
You wipe them on some tissue if you have had the misfortune to get messy.
    - does anyone else have qualms about rinsing it out in a communal sink at work?
Personally I empty the contents down the toilet and then rinse mine in the cubical with a small bottle of water, or I just reinsert it unrinsed which is perfectly acceptable.
    - how do you get the smell of blood off your hands, even after washing in soap and hot water? (or am I just having a Lady Macbeth moment?)
Hot water and soap should remove all trace of any blood that have got on your fingers without any trouble.

    Hope this helps!

  • Yes the "ish" does depend what you are wearing-bulky clothes can get in the way. Trousers are best as you can pull them down. Also easier if you are slim as there is physically more room on the loo to slide back! However-Ive done it and Im not slim, Im a size 16 so a good average. I swear by the tissue though-especially if you are out and there isn't a brush handy to cleanup. I would never leave a mess. As others say-it isn't usually a messy job at all. Ive had far more accidents with tampons and pads personally. I've now had my mooncup for 6 months approx and its the best thing Ive bought for years. Its so comfortable I just worry that I could forget all about it at the end of my period. Ive also popped back in the loo on the odd occasion to check Ive actually got it in as I can no longer feel it. I do agree that they need a small size too though-no way could I have handled it before having the children!

    - has anyone ever pushed theirs out unintentionally? Yes. Bent over (still in bathroom) to pick up towel to wash hands on and it squirted right out. Obviously hadn't popped in in quite right :rotfl:
    - has anyone ever dropped it? They do come out slimy... Fortunately no. I have dropped some blood on the cubicle floor at work but cleaned it up with water and tissue.

    - if you take it out to go poop, do you just hold onto it? I don't take it out to poo. It stays where it is perfectly well

    - after taking out/putting back in, how do you get your pants back up with bloodied fingers? I have to squat REALLY low (almost in a plie to the floor...thank god I did ballet as a kid) to get it in/out so I strip off the bottom half of my clothing. Fortunately at work we have a disabled cubicle on each floor so I just use that. I wash hands before getting dressed again.

    - does anyone else have qualms about rinsing it out in a communal sink at work? As above, I use the disabled cubicle. I pour the contents onto some tissue in the bowl and then rinse in the sink - obviously making sure the sink is properly clean afterwards - and then I wash my hands and that gives the sink a double clean, isywim

    - how do you get the smell of blood off your hands, even after washing in soap and hot water? (or am I just having a Lady Macbeth moment?) out damn spot!:rotfl:

I've never noticed the smell on my hands but a good wash with hot water and soap should do the trick.

    Cheers all!

I'm on my third period...and second mooncup  I have no clue where my original one was, it's SOMEWHERE in my flat - gone to find my V5 I think. Came on early last week and had to use a tampon...eurgh. Not a pleasant experience - I was so light it hurt! Nipped to Boots and bought myself a new one!
We may not have it all together, but together we have it all

Well mooncup replied, but just about advise really. They didn't answer my question about whether there are plans for a smaller size :(

Su told me that they are monitoring the situation. However I recently acquired a couple of LadyCups to compare to Mooncups and found that their Small size is REALLY small. If you want any more info, please PM me.

However LadyCup's Large is very large. They recommend Large for over 25s. I am 41 and have had a baby, yet found their Large far too big. In fact I struggled to remove it. I can only imagine that Czech women have far larger Love Tunnels than we do!
