A couple of people have said about reduced number of days, and I admit to being a bit bemused by it. I've only used my mooncup for two months, and for the first one was doing a tampon/mooncup combination (not combined, I hasten to add), so only really had one 'full' mooncup period. But, it lasted as long as usual. Surely, there is the same amount of blood to get out, no matter how it's being collected?

Similar thing with pain where some people have noticed a difference, but I haven't. I'm on prescription pills for period pains so they are pretty nasty things, and I really wouldn't mind something to help. But so far, not for me.

Do I just need to give it a couple of months do you think?

It just allows the blood to come out quicker, the combination of not having pressure on the cervix, the slight suction I guess.

Quick Q: Does/is/has anyone used a mooncup alternative (femmecup, for example)?
If so, what's it like? I appreciate if you've only ever used a non-mooncup cup that you'd not be able to compare but some opinions would be good. Thanks :)

I've just got in a couple of LadyCups for comparison, and found that the Small size was notably smaller than the B (Small) Mooncup, and it is a little softer. I've asked friends for comparisons and the general opinion was that Mooncups were the best of the bunch, but I am considering stocking the Small size LadyCup for people who need a really small size.

The question about getting smaller sized Mooncups has been brought up several times and currently they are not particularly keen on making a New Mooner. However I've got in a couple of LadyCups for comparison's sake and notice that their Small is significantly smaller than Mooncup's smallest cup. This has lead me to consider stocking the small size LadyCup as a third size alternative.

    What do you think?

The ladycup is smaller at 40mm, but only by 3mm. I think they should make some that are around 20mm maybe and I may stand a chance of getting it in!

  • I have a latex allergy and was wondering if there are any latex free moon cups?

Also I have cervex which tilt backwards which makes smears a nightmare ( sorry about to much information )
from seeing all the advice here would that be an issue using the mooncup?

I'd suggest you give mooncup themselves a call and ask the second question there.
ilovefreegle.org - give it away don't throw it away :)
  • All the cups with the exception of the keeper are made of silicone, not latex, so you should be okay on that score.

As for your tilted uterus, there seems to be some encouraging stories here: http://community.livejournal.com/menstrual_cups/590247.html.

Mooncups are made from medical grade hypoallergenic silicone so you'll fine there, and a retroverted cervix is no problem at all. Many of my customers have the condition and so do I. It's never been a problem for any of them or for me. Good luck!

  • A retroverted cervix should not make a difference as the mooncup sits at the lower end of the vagina and not up in the fornices like a diaphragm. Your vagina still points up and back no matter which way your uterus is flexed.

I got one of these things this week and have a few things I wanted to ask:
    - has anyone ever pushed theirs out unintentionally?
    - has anyone ever dropped it? They do come out slimy...
    - if you take it out to go poop, do you just hold onto it?
    - after taking out/putting back in, how do you get your pants back up with bloodied fingers?
    - does anyone else have qualms about rinsing it out in a communal sink at work?
    - how do you get the smell of blood off your hands, even after washing in soap and hot water? (or am I just having a Lady Macbeth moment?)

    Cheers all!
