I've just come across another site selling the mooncup:
http://www.justbabyskincare.com/jbs/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=42
It's £16.99 plus 95p UK 2nd class postage.
I also found these really cute pouches for your mooncup:
http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=76088§ion_id=5513497
I've yet to buy one as I've had problems using tampons in the past (see here: http://community.livejournal.com/menstrual_cups/1351561.html ). I'd be interested in any feedback from folks on here about this - probably easiest to post on here rather than signing up to livejournal.

Hi Tiptoe. I had similar problems with tampons, and found they made me feel dry & irritated inside too. Love my moon cup though. I think because the rim forms a seal it doesn't slide down in the same way, in fact I find it actually rises up as I'm wearing it.ilovefreegle.org - give it away don't throw it away0

That's really great news Son. You'll soon get the hang of emptying it without any yukkiness, honestly. I've been using mine for 6 years now, and only get blood on my fingers once in a blue moon!
Good luck to all those trying again, I think it's well worth the effort. I was so pleased when I walked past the sp on my recent shopping trip, smiling to myself that I don't need to buy them anymore :T
For those having trouble inserting the mooncup, I found squatting down on the floor made it easier for me to insert, just a thought and another way to try!:p
As for that wally, use old newspapers yourself mate, c how you get on. O no, you're a bloke so use the newspaper to wipe where you're talking from!:rotfl:0 -
Quick Q: Does/is/has anyone used a mooncup alternative (femmecup, for example)?
If so, what's it like? I appreciate if you've only ever used a non-mooncup cup that you'd not be able to compare but some opinions would be good. Thanks0 -
Just posting to make a couple of observations on my 'first' mooncup period in case it helps anyone.
Usually 'Aunt Flo' stays at least five days:
the first two being really heavy (so much so that I sometimes have to sleep on a towel in case the nighttime pad couldn't cope (flooding more a problem when I sat up iykwim) , I have serious cramps and usually take ibruprofen at least two nights before bed - and I HATE taking tablets of any kind:o . Pads needed changing every couple of hours, always felt YUK and moody.
days three to five flow is lighter but still very evident.
Mooncup period:
Only lasted three days
Nowhere near as heavy as normal, hardly any period pain at all, felt a lot 'cleaner', no leaks, nowhere near as 'moody'. :j
Was 'aware' of the cup more on the first day but by the second day I wouldn't have known I had it in.
Must admit I was a bit sceptical beforehand, even though my friend (who I originally told about mooncup and got it before me:o ) raved about it and said how good it was, etc. Really glad I took the plunge -just hope that next month is as easy.

A couple of people have said about reduced number of days, and I admit to being a bit bemused by it. I've only used my mooncup for two months, and for the first one was doing a tampon/mooncup combination (not combined, I hasten to add), so only really had one 'full' mooncup period. But, it lasted as long as usual. Surely, there is the same amount of blood to get out, no matter how it's being collected?
Similar thing with pain where some people have noticed a difference, but I haven't. I'm on prescription pills for period pains so they are pretty nasty things, and I really wouldn't mind something to help. But so far, not for me.
Do I just need to give it a couple of months do you think?0 -
Hi Wyndham
Must admit I was surprised too - kept expecting to 'start up again' :rotfl:
No idea whether it was just coincidence or due to the mooncup but shall report back next month.
As your periods are v. painful maybe it will take a bit longer before you see any effect ......will keep my fingers crossed for you.
essexgal;)old enough to know better, young enough not to care;)0 -
Awh! Thanks essexgal!
Well, I'll be able to tell you quite soon.......0 -
I've been using mine for a few years now - originally bought from and with the encouragemnet of Tittch (thanks hun x!)
I have to be honest and say that I don't notice much difference in length of period - but then I do pop the mooncup in at the first sign and for the first day or so and the last day or 2 I can leave it in all day with no issues.
I have maybe 1-2 days of crampy feelings compared to 3-4 before and only 24 hours of really heavy flow where I also use a towel overnight
It truly has revolutionised my life let alone the cost of tampons/towels etc
Ps really been laughing at the troll with the alternative of rolled up newspapers and hep C
I say lock us all away for at least 7 days a month like they used to do in days of yore- now that would be moneysaving wouldn't it??? I wouldn't be able to get to the shops - or anything..............Back to comping! July wins: Frylight August wins: Pixar DVD, Diesel Watch,£75 hamper brioche products September wins bath soak
Thanks to everyone who posts comps and help :beer:0 -
