I thought I might give the mooncup a try but I'm a bit confused about sizes. To say that I am on an extremely limited budget would be an understatement so I don't want to risk getting the wrong one.
I saw that there was one size for before childbirth and one for after. I had my son when I was really young and sproingy and so I don't know whether my body would have recovered or if I still need to get a post-baby one.
Any ideas muchly appreciated.
I don't think when you had your son will matter if you gave birth naturally. But if you go to the mooncop website you can ask themMine arrived really quick when I ordered from Bodykind (like next day!) and as I'm due on next week I'll be testing it then for the first time.
So here's to many years of not having to use tampons and sanitary towels :beer:DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

You can order a moon cup at https://www.keeper.com for $37 including international shipping. They have a 3 month satisfaction guarantee (check the site for terms), so you could return it if it's the wrong size?0 -
I'd rather you didn't [use disabled loos]! I can't believe that members are advocating the use of disabled facilities for this!
Can I echo this? Disabled loos are there for disabled people. Not for people with buggies, unless they are also designated parent and child facilities. Not for women with mooncups. Most loos are inaccessible to many disabled people, hence the need for separate provision (wouldn't it be nice if all loos could be accessed easily?). As it is, there are relatively few disabled loos, compared to standard inaccessible ones, and I think it is a matter of courtesy, at the very least, not to use a disabled loo if you are not disabled.
I have been both a mum with a buggy, and an enthusiastic mooncup user, by the way, and I have managed without having to misuse a facility which was not designated for me.
With regard to the issue of cleaning a mooncup, the solution I have found is to take a pouch of presoaked washable wipes, which are good for cleaning both the mooncup and my hands, and can be washed at home. This has worked very well for me.2011 wins: 2 day gym membership, film download, NETBOOK!Debt at LBM: [STRIKE][/STRIKE] [STRIKE]26/1/11 = £4733.26[/STRIKE] 11/6/11 = £3759.3840 -
i bought a moon cup last month and it's only taken a couple of days to get used to. i'm so glad i don't have to take a bag full of pads with me everywhere i go now! (couldn't use tampons as i have an IUD). so thanks to everyone for letting me know about this. i wish i'd known about them earlier. i told my sis in New Zealand about it and she said they're really popular over there already.
btw, if you're in a public loo, take a squirty bottle of water to rinse it with. reuse an empty, small, well-rinsed washing up liquid bottle or something similar.0 -
Hi,
I bought my mooncup a few weeks ago, and only started using it last night. Was wondering how long i could leave it in for? does it just depend on how much collects in there? or is there a need for me to take it out and wash it every 4-6 hours?0 -
It depends on your usual flow. I started with emptying mine as often as I would usually change a tampon. I could see how full the cup was, and so got an idea how long I could leave it. After a couple of months, I got into what is now my regular schedule - empty morning and evening, because I have a ridiculously light flow.0

wow, that sounds good. i don't mind emptying it, but don't really fancy emptying it in public at the moment as i'm still new to it. mooncup.co.uk said 4 times in a 24 hr period, but if it's no risk of TSS, i assumed it can be less. thanks for your reply ytaya0

I am unable to understand how these can be used as easily as tampons - I need the applicator - can't/won't use the ones without - gross!
Also how can the "travel light" brigade say this when they are then advocating taking extra tissues and bottles of water for washing mooncup and hands - much more bulky and heavy than a couple of tampons!
Also, the grossest thing is the washing of these in a dishwasher - wouldn't want to eat a meal at their house!:eek:0 -
Dear isaacsmum,
As you have read this thread thoroughly, you will doubtless have read the many posts stating that if you come here simply to criticse, you are free to ignore the existence of mooncups and leave us to go about our business in peace. Nobody is forcing you to read this gross and unclean thread
On the other hand, if you have a genuine inquiry, we'd be more than happy to help. Perhaps you could let us know your specific questions.0 -
I think mooncup is quiet good but sometimes it leaks. Do anyone have the same problem? When u laugh loudly(very loud)...well.....fart.... Everyone know now....0
