Wish I'd known about mooncups when I was younger. Now however I have no need of anything like that - now where is that icon for a self-satisfied smirk?

    Hi

Just wanted to say that I use washable sanitary towels and find them to be great, so much more comfortable than disposable ones, not a hassle to launder at all and I dont have to panic to get to the shops when I come on as I know I have them ready. I would not have thought of using them had I not used washable nappies for my babies, it just seemed like a natural progression for me to use these. Always like the idea that I am saving money and kinder to the environment.

i use natural sponges as tampons. they are easy to rinse out and reinsert(sorry so graphic), i then disinfect them in tea tree oil.

I bought some washable sanitary towels and love them. They are in lovely colours ranging from rainbow fleece to leopard skin print! I must say the leopard skin print took a bit of getting used to but I wouldn't be without them now. If you are handy with a sewing machine you can make your own too.

I can heartily recommend both and for those who don't already know, a mooncup is a little rubber cup which is used instead of a tampon, just gets washed out and re-used and they last about 10 years

There's a long running thread somewhere else about this - might be in "green money saving". I had never heard of them before, but took the plunge and bought one off a smashing lady on ebay- and like you - I wish I'd heard about them years ago - would have saved literally hundreds of pounds of feminine hygiene products. I can't stop talking about the Mooncup to anyone who'll listen!!

Me too! I can't believe all the money I've been throwing away for years! The thing is that most people still aren't aware of washable/reusable products, I'd never heard of them until using cloth nappies on my little one. Probably a deliberate ploy somehow by the big sanitary towel and tampon companies ... grrr
Learning how to save money with 5 little ones ... help!! :p
