I've been using a mooncup for 3 months now and getting on really well with it. I actually find it much less 'icky' than using conventional sanitary products - I was getting so many leaks using tampons (very heavy periods since DS2 born) and nothing like that with the mooncup. It can stay in all night and just seems to much cleaner and more hygienic than a tampon.

I wouldn't be without mine. I got them at Peeweez. (You need to click on the link at the top left of the page and choose 'menstrual pads' as they mostly sell nappies. They're made from reused flannelette and are the softest thing imaginable. And much more reliable than any disposables I've used.

I'll put this over to the green board where it can be linked with the longer thread.

Yep, I use both depending on my mood. Couldn't bear the thought of lining my pants with paper and plastic anymore- now that is ick!

I don't know if you get many male posters on here, but here's one.
My poor old wifey had been experiencing very heavy and quite frequent periods, went to the docs who said it was not uncommon in someone her age (41) anyway he offered her the coil, which she was not to keen on.
Anyway i had been following this thread:o and bought her one as a prezzy:D
she is delighted, very very pleased, and now deceided against a coil.

    Have you got a brother?

I'm amazed at a doctor offering the coil as a solution to heavy periods, my experience is that the coil make periods heavier and more painful.

Expect it was the mirena, often referred to as a coil, but is an intrauterine device containing hormones - it has been recommended to me by my doctor for helping to control heavy bleeding. Apparently some people even stop having periods whilst using it. I'm seriously tempted but it does have side effects to consider.

Niccy, your wife might find that her bleeding is too heavy for the mooncup to cope with, that's what I have found. It's ok from about day 3/4 for me, but hopeless at the heaviest point unfortunately.
