no leakage, but i'm wearing pantyliners just in case as im new to mooncups. my only issue is removal.i think i cut the stem too short :o so i have to push with my mucles a lot before my very very short stem appears. and then it requires a lot of pull, it seems very sucked on, and i end up having to squeeze the cup to get it out. any suggestions? buy a new one? :o

 never try and pull it out without squeezing to release the suction first! It hurts! You're supposed to squeeze it to break the seal - it's a feature, not a bug ;)

ha ha  thanks for that ytaya! i feel silly now. apart from the whole removal thing, i'm loving the mooncup! it did sound a bit gross, but it's the best purchase i've ever made. im trying to convince my sis to get one, but she's reluctant.

just bought one and it works!

thanks to this long thread, i was perswaded...

i started to use it on first day of my period and have had no problems in fitting and much less leakage than with my tampons. my greatest fear used to be soiling myself, while wearing thick washable towels, but need not worry anymore. hurray!

Ok, I'm won over. Where is the cheapest place I can get the silicon one from?

just thought i would tell you of my first holiday with mooncup... I did make it a bit difficult for myself - a week on a boat in Lagos! In the marina- so can't use the boat's facilities but instead have to walk off the boat, along the jetty and into the marina building to go to the loo. At home i only empty it in the morning and evening when I'm at home so wasn't used to the bottle of water/tissues thing. But it worked fine - I had weighed up going back to tampons just for the week but decided being able to leave it in for longer was more of a benefit in a holiday/beach/swimming situation.
Only thing I did find - went to a waterpark and down lots of slides, plunging into pools ... no leaks but when I emptied it that evening I found it was rather full of water, oops...

I am unable to understand how these can be used as easily as tampons - I need the applicator - can't/won't use the ones without - gross!
Also how can the "travel light" brigade say this when they are then advocating taking extra tissues and bottles of water for washing mooncup and hands - much more bulky and heavy than a couple of tampons!
Also, the grossest thing is the washing of these in a dishwasher - wouldn't want to eat a meal at their house!

Why are you so freaked out by your own period? It's just a tiny amount of natural blood. It's not poo or battery acid, it's not dirty or dangerous, it won't infect you or hurt you in any way. I find it strange that any woman, let alone someone who's given birth, could feel so disgusted by their natural cycles. I've found that one of the best things about using a mooncup is feeling connected with my body, seeing what's coming out, the flow, the colour, the consistency... It's fascinating. It makes me feel like a natural woman! Plus it doesn't dry you up like tampons do. And though it doesn't bother me personally when I do, you hardly ever get any blood on your hands at all. Of course, if it's touching yourself that makes you feel icky, you have a different problem altogether, but that's never been a problem for me either ;) I love my Mooncup, switching to it is one of the best moves I have ever made. And it saves so much money!

i've finally just ordered one. Read this thread months ago and was intrigued but a bit 'erm, not quite sure'.

Might as well try it - if so many other women sing its praises, why not!
