well, in some institutions there *are* only disabled loos (to make access for all in public buildings as part of regs now). i use them frequently as usually i have three children in tow, and one in nappies. disabled loos usually have access for baby changing facilities too.
i don't see any point in waiting in a mile long queue when there's a disabled loos going begging, but i've also used the men's if in desperate need, so maybe i'm the 'exception that proves the rule'.
using the toilet for 5 mins is different to parking in a disabled bay for an infinate amount of time.
again, we're all women of need and it's not as though i'm pushing a disabled person out of the way to jump the queue, and i've *never* had a disabled person waiting to use to the loo after me!
getting back to subject - mooncups are great! What goes around - comes around

Surely, a blue sign on toilet door only indicates that it is accessible for wheelchair users? I do not believe it is intended to signify the the toilet is exclusively for the use of 'disabled' people.
We have a new Tesco locally, all the toilets are suitable for wheelchair access and have the blue sign. They are intended for use by all customers though.Official DFW Nerd No 096 - Proud to have dealt with my debt!0 -

The wheelchair sign is the internationally recognised sign for disabled not wheelchair only.
Otherwise people who use colostomy bags and walk or people who can walk but need help with wiping etc would not be able to use them.
I have no problem when toilets are for use by both disabled and non disabled people. It's when people come out of a disabled toilet when there are other toilets available that annoys me. Especially when posters on this thread say "I shall look out for disabled toilets" or "I use disabled toilets because they have a sink in them" or similar. Having a mooncup is not an excuse for using disabled facilities when there are other facilities available you can use.
If you can't use one without a sink, don't use one! Many shopping centres have 1 or 2 disabled toilets to 8 non-accesable toilets.
A poster said that she would be happy if my hubby came into the ladies toilet to help me...I take it that would be the same for women everywhere then and he would have no risk of being labelled a pervert? No didn't think so!The "Bloodlust" Clique - Morally equal to all. Member 10

Sorry to hijack this thread (which is not about the misuse of public facilities), but, as you say, some 'disabilities' are not visible, and therefore I would never dream of challenging anyone entering a wheelchair accessible toilet for what may be perfectly legitimate reasons. I would hope to be afforded the same courtesy.
Secondly, whilst menstruation is a normal process, it does carry health risks which are not immediately obvious. Hygiene is of vital importance and if using a toilet cubicle with a sink would minimise the contamination of other surfaces by blood products, I would consider that to be appropriate use and in keeping with the interest of public health.Official DFW Nerd No 096 - Proud to have dealt with my debt!0 -
Maybe a little picture of a mooncup or some other sign of menstruation could be added on a cubicle door so that only menstruating women are permitted entry and un-menstruating women are prohibited**********************************************************************

Genius! Problem solved!
Aside from all that, am using my mooncup for the first time today - at work. I've only been using it a few hours but already I love it - much more comfortable than tampons (although i hav one in my bag just in case!) Well worth the money, and will save so much more in the long run.
Very happy - thanks all for your recommendations!!!odi et amo0 -
Hmmm used my mooncup for the first time yesterday. Not sure what to make of it yet. First couple of times in at the start it was great but as my period got heavier so did the problems. Leaked once in the evening and was leaking when I woke up early this morning, went back to bed for two hours and it was leaking again by the time I woke up _pale_
Guess I didn't realise just how heavy periods were until I got to see it first hand
I can use it at the mo because I'm looking for work so I'm home alot of the time but I think once I get a job again I'll have to use tampons while I'm there so I don't have any accidents >.<**********************************************************************

I have heavy periods, but very rarely get leaks overnight now. It maybe that you haven't got a proper "seal". Have a read of the instructions that come with the mooncup for some ways to ensure that you have the seal. It really is worth persevering.

This is what I find with the mooncup unfortunately. I've persevered and persevered, I emailed mooncup for advice etc, but nothing they suggested worked. At its peak, it's just too much for it to cope with and won't form an adequate seal. I'm ok once it slows down a bit, so use the mooncup for 2 or 3 days at least, but still not been able to give up tampons completely. I have however seen a doctor (as a result of seeing how heavy my loss was when using the mooncup - over 300mls when I monitored it) and was told that I'm exceptionally heavy, joy of joys, so if you have a more normal heavy flow (anything over 80mls considered heavy - think average loss is more like 30mls), then it is probably just a case of persevering until you work out what works. Email mooncup for tips on things to try perhaps?0
