Can you believe this:mad: dr liam donaldson is saying swine flu can effect the unborn baby  (video clip at 1.11 mins) They have been saying for months that it is a minor illness and unborn babies are uneffected. I had my doubts because back in june / july there were quite a few pregnant ladies and their babies not making it but i thaught i was just being a devil's advocate or looking for a cover up iyswim.
ooo and have you seen this:
"What is the evidence that it is safe for pregnant women?
This is complicated and - as a result - has stoked up some controversy.
The clinical trials that have tested the two vaccines have not included pregnant women - they never do.
However, there is a wealth of evidence from seasonal flu vaccine programmes - it is routinely given to pregnant women in the US - that immunisations, such as the Baxter one, are safe.
It is a slightly different story for the GSK vaccine - and that is the one that most pregnant women will end up being offered in the UK.
Unlike Baxter's vaccine, it contains an adjuvant - a chemical to boost the immune system response.
There is not as much evidence on adjuvanted vaccine use in pregnant women - although there is nothing to suggest it is unsafe.
Indeed, Professor David Salisbury, the government's director of immunisations and one of the World Health Organization's key advisers on vaccines, has sought to reassure women that the GSK jab is a better option.
He has pointed out that as it is effective with one dose, it offers better protection than the Baxter version which requires two doses several weeks apart and, therefore, longer without protection against the virus" http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/8200504.stm
Sorry really fuming now as i was told that i might have swine flu by a doctor but that it was a mild thing, that it was too late for rolenza and that my unborn baby would be unaffected as it had a seperate system iyswim - just this week (was it on mon?) I am soo fuming with the gov for not releasing this info earlier
Sorry rant over and i am going to log off now :sad:0 -

Thanks Gill
Can I ask, if you know, what else comes in that box?
I've got a little pair of white tu booties, 100ml bottle of comfort pure, 75ml bottle of imperial leather foamburst shower gel, 50ml bottle of carex hand gel, a little swimmer nappy, a newborn size 2 nappy, a pack of 72 huggies pure wipes and a little pack of tissues as well as the changing mat.
Not worth £9.99 IMO but pretty darn good for a freebie with a pack of nappies!
It's very difficult deciding what to do about the swine flu jabs - I swing from think I really don't want the jab to hearing awful things about swine flu and being desperate for it lol!
Got my 11 week scan tomorrow....I'm a bit excited and very nervous!Mummy to Thomas born April 27th 2010 8lb 5oz0 -
We should have an MSE preggy club t shirt which says "please do not touch my bump and no i have not had the baby yet"
Found the first one
http://www.newlook.co.uk/1542632/154263210/ProductDetails.aspxmy mum has just called , and i told her about the buggy/pram we are going to buy tomorrow , now she has asked me please do not keep the pram in our house , its not just her being supersticous its lots of people who say it is very bad luck to keep in the house,
Now the question is ...
who else agrees with my mum ?
as i want to have it here so i acn play with it , i really dont want to keep at my mums as she smokes and it will smell of smoke
Sorry but if lots of people say it then its lots of people being superstitious IMO! I guess it depends on what you're comfortable with though, if it will make you nervous then don't keep it at yours but personally I think any objects bringing good/bad luck of any form is a load of old tripe.
I defo wouldn't want it stored somewhere smokey though, do you have a friend who might house it for you maybe?:heart2: Mumma to DD 13yrs, DD 11yrs & DS 3 yrs. :heart2:0 -
Hey everyone.
Still getting the spotting, it's coming and going, sometimes brown and sometimes red. Phoned the midwives office first thing who said I should book an appointment with my GP, so phoned them. My GP was not in today so got the first available appointment with the duty doctor, but it was quite late by then so he couldn't have sent me for a scan today anyway  He said as I wasn't in any pain, and it wasn't particularly heavy that there was no need to think the worst. I've got to go in tomorrow and see my GP, who will liaise with my midwife as to whether I should have a scan. The guy I saw today said he was pretty sure that I'd get one. I hope so, I want to know either way. He was very reassurring and kind though, he said he has 4 children, and his wife had spotting in early pregnancy with 3 of them and they were all born healthily, so that made me feel a bit better. Gonna phone in sick at work tomorrow, Doc said I should try & rest either way, and I was next to useless today anyway as I was so worried.
Thanks for all your good wishes, and Merfe, today really has dragged hasn't it? Best of luck to you tomorrow. Glad your OH is going to the scan with you. Mine is working but has told me to phone him if they send me for a scan and he'll come straight away.0 -
Ali- hope it all works out OK tomorrow. I'm sure it will be fine.
Hope everyone else is OK and doing well. It seems to be a day for aches and pains tho! My legs are really aching today and during the day my back has started to hurt more and more, and my left hip is burning again- hopefully it's cos the little lady has had a bit of a growth spurt so things are moving about, but it's so uncomfortable.
Have had problems with my joints before, only way I can describe it is I can feel them moving, but been tested for rheum. arthritis which was negative, but looks like it's making a comeback now. My bump feels horrible today, really uncomfortable and I feel really tired so will head off to bed very soon.
Added to that the baby seemingly trying to kick her way out of my butt (I didn't think it was possible to feel kicks in your bum!) I'm not feeling good tonight! Sure I'll be fine in the morning after a good nights sleep tho.Boots: £107.xx on AC :j

ali glad to hear the doctor was reassuring, mine was rubbish - partly because he cocked up the appointment time but also he felt my tummy but said he couldnt really feel anything - dont know what he was expecting to feel. He just said we just dont know until the scan. Good luck at the doctors tomorrow, i hope you dont have to wait too long for your scan.
I dont think i'm gonna be able to sleep well tonight, i'm sooo nervous already.0 -
Nikkit - I've got my pram next to me here in the living room. When I had DD I didn't have it delivered until after the birth because my mum said it was bad luck. I think if it is bad luck then surely it would be the same for buying anything for baby in advance and you would be totally unprepared for bringing them home if you had bought nothing
. It's more practical, I think, these days for you to have everything at home ready as you can buy when you see things cheap. I agree also that I wouldn't want it to come back reeking of smoke either, though I lived at my mum's when I had DD and she smokes but I probably didn't notice as I was so used to it iyswim. I used to smoke but never in the house and think it is pretty horrid when DD brings her toys home from my mums now and they smell.
JHA - hugs to you. Hopefully everything will be ok with your LO, it must be such a worry seeing that now. I must admit the whole thing has started to panic me a bit with the birth being so close now and hearing these horrible new swine flu stories coming out, I wish I could just start off now to get it over before I have any further chance of coming in to contact with it.
Portsmouthali & Merfe - really hope everything settles down for you both soon, I had bleeding too early on and agree that you should try not to think the worst (although easier said than done). I hope you can get some rest. Hugs to you both.
Helen - You still have nearly two weeks! Tell them all to sodoff! I know the obvious always comes to mind when people see a pregnant woman and they end up making the same comments over and over but it is so annoying.
I made the mistake of asking OH today outside Morrisons whether I was the same size as this huge pregnant smoking chav and he actually stopped for a second to look at me:eek: Was absolutely gutted even though logically I really know I'm nowhere near as big but the fact that he even stopped to consider it really hurt my feelings - I know I shouldn't have asked though what a wally!
Don't feel a failure for not going yet! You aren't due just yet. I started feeling a little bit over-expectant at 37 wks after seeing that Glam went then, hoping I would do the same but that feeling has settled down now and I don't feel in such a rush. The only reason why I'm pretty keen to get the birth out of the way is the whole SF situation now.
Everyone seems to need good vibes sending today, so sending them to everyone and hope you all feel better soon x0
