  • Hi Slm,

Sorry, hope my anecdote didn't sound harsh, suppose we can all be guilty of not appreciating what we have sometimes.

I'm impressed and intrigues with your list - T bag cards?

Also you have inspired me to think about starting tax return usually submit it online on about 30th January - not a nice time for those around me!

    Best wishes, Dee

That's a good idea to set some deadline lists. I'll need to get to work on that. Might be a bit scary though! LOL

Slow progress is fine - so much better than no progress at all!

Dee-no it didnt sound too harsh -i am not offended. T-bag cards are from the crafting for christmas forum. i would post a link but not worked out how to do that yet. It is basically a homemade card/ book with a poem attached and a tbag. More of a 'its the thought that counts' type of pressie. some will have coffee, others tea, hot choc,or gold choc coins.
I want to get all work out of the way asap so i can concentrate and enjoy making things for xmas.

Triggles - lists and deadlines are always great. Get all of the horrid stuff out of the way and then enjoy the lead up to fun times.

well i got another cheque today for one of the tax returns and accounts so will put that in the bank on the way to nursery later today. on the bad side of business one of my clients has decided to pack in their partnership so no more accounts or either tax return next year. Quite a large chunk out of my income as only a small business anyway. Guess tax credits will be increased next year because of it!

My house looks like a bomb site at the moment so i really must get organised with daily and weekly chores. I make lists but really cant get going at the moment.

Morning all just had to share with you what OH randomly said last night. As he hasnt yet sorted out his new bank and the transfer of housekeeping / bill money over to my account yet he handed me a envelope of money - he will do this for the next 4 days to get the full amount i will need. He made a comment ' it would be so much better if everything came out of my bank account and then i wouldnt have to do this'. My initial reaction was ahhhh and that nothing would be paid as he has a habbit of spending every penny not worrying about DD's etc. I then thought if he was paying everything he would actually have to put more of his wages towards things and i might finally get somewhere when it came to paying off the debts.
He also seems to think that he could cut costs - especially food shopping. I spend £30 a week for the 4 of us and that includes everything from nappies, food and cleaning stuff. Apparently i buy stuff that is fancy? not sure what as i am pretty sure most things are value and if we buy a packet of value choc biscuits thats a treat?
I told him to go for it. I dont mind handing it all over as long as he makes sure things are paid - i have access to his online account so would be keeping check. All i asked for was £10 pocket money to cover petrol and maybe the odd magazine each month!
He went a little quiet as i dont think he was expecting that reaction. I am sure he would soon hand it all back!

Sorry for such a long post. Have a good day :)

slm - LOL!!! He may be in for a shock! We just have one joint account. DH and I did a lot of the bills and such together, but since I've been a SAHM and have more time to overlook things, I've taken that job over. We do a brief go-over once a week just to make sure he knows what's up with finances, but basically that's it. £30 per week is great! We can't get that low at this point, but then there are 6 of us, plus two in nappies (one still potty training) and one on formula.

I think he would certainly be in for a big shock. He is not great with money which is why the thought of him sorting it out would worry me, but for a month or 2 until he gets board with it and understands why we struggle would be worth it.

And yes even though we still only buy the cheap value nappies its still an expense we could do without. DS will be 2 on sunday but i really dont think he is anywhere near potty training yet. I think i will tackle this little joy in the spring/summer months.
I am actually being allowed out to play tonight while OH looks after the kids. That sounds really bad, but it is very rare for me to be the one to go out. Will only be an hour and half at pub but thats probably all i will manage before i need my bed!

  • Hi S

I take my hat off to you to do all that for under £30 per week. When my son was little it was the most expensive time ever what with nappies, wipes, washing powder etc, milk...

I had an idea which might help hubby see the light. You are probably a whizz with excel so if you do a sheet in excel of all your expenses, where everything is spent each month, including hubbies pub/pool/darts money and transfer it into a pie chart or something similar. It is much more visual and it might help him to see a sliver for you, a thin wedge for food etc, a wedge for his spends, obviously the truck would be a chunk...

It might register more easily than a list. Just a suggestion...

    Best wishes, DD

Thanks for the idea dee. I already have everything on the spreadsheet so would easily be able to do the pie chart.

Thanks for the idea dee. I already have everything on the spreadsheet so would easily be able to do the pie chart. It would certainly give him the overall picture and he might realise a third of the money we get in is his to do with as he pleases - including truck etc.

    great idea:beer:
