i wish i knew the answer to that! I go to several free childrens playgroups throughout the week and have decided to cut it down to twice a week after christmas unless the housework has been done, otherwise i go out and dont get back until about 4pm, by this time i am not ready for dinner which means i have to be naughty and reley on expensive ready made stuff - not what i want to be doing!

Yes just a few bits to wrap now and then i am done. Will try to do that tonight and then concentrate on enjoying the festive period, that is once the house is at a fairly respectable state ready for any unexpected visitors.

Heard some gossip the other day that our towns aldi is shutting down. I reley on their super 6 for our veg and fruit. nearest one will now be 15 miles away so not worth going that far. really disappointed :(

Hope you all have a great day x

  • Bad news about Aldi, Don't you have Mr L's or any other cheaper supermarkets nearby? Sorry not sure of your location.

Where I live theres 3 ( Mr T , Mr M and Mr l within a 5 mile radius ) so we're spoilt for choice really. I've never shopped at Aldi. I've been shopping at Lidls around 3 months now and really reduced my shopping budget although it was hard at first not being able to browse around looking at candles, clothes etc like normal supermarkets. The money i wasted!

Have you got the dishwasher in now?

Hi suzy, yes we have a lidl and expect the competition between the 2 is why they are closing. We do go there quite often but i really liked the super 6 veg selection. Hey ho never mind it also means i will not pick any extras up for the children at the same time. We also have a Mr T, Mr A, and a coop near by so plenty to choose from.

The dishwasher is still not plumbed in. OH plumber friend who will be doing it has been really busy. Even though i am sure its only a fairly quick job to do he just doesnt have the time at the mo. I really hope its soon though. It really is quite frustrating having it sitting there and not being able to use it.

Hope you are all well. Now off to check my 'to do list' for today.

:santa2:Yippee all work is finally done for this year. now all i have to concentrate on is the housework and enjoying the christmas festivities:rudolf:

Money wise i am just about staying on top of things. Food shoping is my downfall as even though i follow a list i see things and think oh that should have been on my list and oh i need that when really yes i will need it in a week or two (low toothpaste for example) but dont really need it now!

I have joined the challenge for spending 4k next year (or whatever the new title is) so hopefully that will give me a boost in that area.

We have been enjoying the snow and daughter instructed me that we were not allowed indoors until we had finished the snowman, had a snowball fight and had made snow angels! Even then it was a big struggle to get the little ones in. I think i must be getting old as i now prefer to look out at the snow from a nice warm room. I think this weeks electric and gas meter readings will be a little higher than previous weeks as we have just wanted warmth - well it is nearly christmas!

Anyway i hope your all enjoying the snow and keeping warm x

Happy New Year to you all. I am now about to start listing whats in the freezer whilst my banana loaves bake in the oven - bought a few to many bananas this week and they have gone all brown already - at least OH will be happy. He is off out again to work between 12 and 7 so a few more pennies to add to the pot. I am a little worried that he is just going to collapse as he is always working and very rarely has a rest at the moment. the extra money is nice but i his health is much more important to me.

Anyway i hope everyone feels as possitive about the new year as i do x

Happy New Year to you too Slm !

Glad to see that you also have signed up to the 2010 frugal living - I couldn't begin to even think of a budget, too much going on at the moment and our lives are hectic with 5 children ( and plans of another one this year ) but at least I aim to live as frugally as possible- the thread goes so quickly though and it's hard to keep up!

    I wish you luck.

Do you grow your own veg at all or any plans to ?

Hi Suzy, you do sound really busy and maybe this year another little one will add to that. I am busy enough with my 2 plus maybe another this year if all goes to plan!

I havent been keeping very up to date with the frugal thread to be honest because as you say it goes so fast. I have been having a little read most days though.

I have my name on the waiting lists for an allotment, but have been on the list for at least 4 years now and still nothing. We did grow tomatoes in the garden last year and lettuce so may try again this year. I was thinking weather or not i could grow a tray of lettuce leaves that could be cut when i needed them rather than buying them and them going off because i am the only who eats it. I will look into this.

Quite a bit of snow here and a casserole in the slow cooker so looking forward to dinner - lovely comfort food.
