  • Hi Slm,

Glad to hear you are ok and enjoyed your Christmas. I know what you mean about the warmth and looking out at the pretty snow. We kept the heating off till 7th November but I'm quite happy to put it on full blast now for the next few months. I have worked out what I think we will use, I keep checking the meters so hopefully no surprises in the Spring. Stay cozee!

Hi i need some advice. My step mother- who i dont really like- has asked if she can change the colour of the pashmina that i gave her for christmas. Only problem is that it was a freebie that i found when looking on this site. Anyone got any advice as to what i could tell her without admitting it was free?

Anyway apart from the help on the above post a few things have gone on. The big cheque that i got for £300 for christmas has been taken out as payment for my credit card. Although this nearly pays off the whole card i had not planned for it and had already put this money by for my holiday spending money. Not really sure why they took so much as i am only in theory supposed to be paying the min. amount - i do regulary pay extra on top but not that much!

Some of you may know that i will be trying for a baby after i return from holiday in march. Well my iud decided to come out at the end of the year on it own? not sure why but guess we are now trying. Still expect things wont happen till after the holiday anyway but who knows!

OH hurt his arm at work today - fell off his lorry! - so looks like we will have him around the house for at least a week. Hoping i can get him to do all of the little jobs - nothing physically challenging - that i have been asking him to do for quite a while, such as get his passport photo taken. We are flying 1st march and he still hasnt got an upto date passport!

I hope everyone else is ok and looking forward to the snow melting away at last x

  • You don't have to mention it was free- loads of people recycle presents and get freebies.Tell her you bought it earlier on in the year in the sale and you havent got the receipt or something similar. Bit cheeky of her if you ask me! lol

Good luck on the pregnancy front, we too have started trying so I may see you on the pregnancy thread! How exciting hey and two years between all yours.

Hope your OH recovers soon, the break from work may do him good by the sounds of it as you said he's been working loads recently.

Hi i am back again and would like some more advice please if anyone can help. A friend of my OH will become homeless at the end of the month and has asked if he can lodge in our garage. He is willing to convert it for us as long as we put the electrics in and then pay £60 a week. I would provide meals during the week and do his washing. He would have to let himself into our house for washing etc as there would not be any washing facilities in his room.

Next door has converted their garage for an extra bedroom but not sure if they got planning permission or not, or if we would need it? Obviously the extra money would be good but i just have this niggling feeling in my mind that something wont be right. Also an extra room would add value to the house if we decide to sell.

OH wanted my decission 2 hours after he mentioned it to me but i said i needed a little longer to look at things. I said i would let him know my ideas by friday night

Please any advice or things i need to consider would be great. Thanks

  • First I thought that it would be a good way of making a few pounds then I thought would I really like it myself ? I would have to say no. I wouldn't like people coming and going like that but then again we like our own space and even hate visitors calling! Would he bring visitors round? You would need a few ground rules.

Would their be any implications on benefits if you get any? Its a form of income isn't it? Not sure on the planning permission side but a quick call to your local council would answer that one.

I'm not to sure about the price of rent but £60 for food , washing and a roof over your head sounds a good price. You need to see that your not selling yourself short if you do go ahead with it. I know he would be the one converting it and therefore that will save you money but only if you was going to do that in the first place. Some people would prefer your garage over an extra room if you came to sell it.

Sorry I sound really negative don't I. I don't mean to be but You're right their is alot to think about.

Thanks suzy these are the sort of things that have been going round my head all night. I certainly dont want the children waking up to find strangers wandering past their rooms in the night if they need the toilet.

Still going to think about it a little more though. OH thinks i think too much and should just go with things and enjoy the extra cash!

Hi suzy thanks for the link. Will have a good read of that in a min. I belive OH is telling friend that it wont go ahead. Although we havent really discussed it, he knows that i am not keen and has kind of given up so i am happy with that. Maybe sometime in the future if things change but for now it just our family house and thats how it will stay.

Hope everyone is keeping well x
