  • Hi Slm,

Sorry to hear about the gas bill - have you tried taking meter readings of your own on a regular basis? I use Imeasure to log mine.

We we lucky that we had a rebate of £282 gas and electric this winter but saying that we hardly had the heating on at all until we had to and had candles lit rather than lights, probably not MSE but looks nice! I really wanted to watch the usage though with being on mat leave and money being shorter than norm.

Hows things going as a SAHM ?

Hi Suzy, yes i log my meter readings each week and apart from the snowy few weeks it was down this year compared to last. It didnt seem to mater and since gas and electric bills have gone up the heating has only been on a few times for an hour just to take the edge off the cold.

I like being a SAHM. it suits me and i am not sure i really want to go back to work until they are quite a bit older. We are (cant remember if i said) now activly trying for our 3rd little one. I went over to the 'TTC baby thread' but it has gone very hormonal so think i will stay away for a while till it calms down. I did get some quite useful information from them but cant be bothered with the politics of it all.

Feel like i have been spending and spending recently for the holiday. Most of the time its just little bits here and there but i can tell it is mounting up. Only 15 days to go now so were all getting very excited.

Hope everyone else is ok x

  • Good luck with the baby making. Hope you get your "blue line" soon.

It took me 18 months to catch with number 5, it seemed ages. We tried things a little differently eg frequency, excercising and hey presto! We've just found out that we are expecting again. (its a secret your the first person I've told lol) Its happened straightaway which I'm shocked about. Did you catch easily on both other times?

I know what you mean about the holiday spending, sun creams, glasses and clothes really mount up. You must be really excited about it being so soon now. It'll be a nice break from all this naff weather we've been having.

congratulations (whispering) and thank you for letting me be the first to know. i feel very honoured. I hope it goes really well for you. My last 2 both happened 2 months after coming off pill so very easy and quick. We didnt even look at timings or anything, just let things happen naturally. This time i was on IUD and i think my body may need a little longer to catch up with itself but hopefully.

Had a little bad news on mon as hubby may have the wrong visa to go on holiday but it is too late to get the proper one. I really dont want him to be sent home when trying to enter but i guess we will keep our fingers crossed that we will be allowed in. It certainly has put a dampner on things, and i really dont like the idea of explaining why daddy has to go home to the kids. i feel its my fault as i sorted the visa waivers out and in all honesty i thought it was ok. anyway 12 days to go and counting

  • Thankyou. :D

You never know it may happen on holiday when your both relaxed. You'll be on your way soon. How long are you going for?

That's bad about the Visa, you must feel pretty stressed about that. I'm not too "up"on America and visa's. I hope they let him in, hopefully it's just a small thing. Fingers crossed for you.

We are staying with my mum in the usa and have several nights away just the 2 of us so plenty of time for trying. I will feel much better once i know he has made it through the checks. He was done with drink driving 8 years ago - no one was hurt and it was on his driveway. I do not by any means think it was ok but he is certainly much more grown up and sensible about things - he is now a hgv driver and takes it very seriously. I really hope he gets in.

Were going for 2 weeks. 1 week at mums in georgia and 1 week in disney with them. Mum has paid for the majority of things as we would never have made it there otherwise. We only really had to pay for the flights and some spending money. I cant wait but dont want to get too excited incase it all goes bad.

I hope your feeling ok. Has the morning sickness kicked in yet. I always felt a little queesy but was never actually ill.

  • Ohh the perks of having family abroad. :) My Mums in France so we're going over for 2 weeks soon, 1 week in a Villa and another with my Mum. How nice that the 2 of you will get time together, it's hard with children isn't it. to make that time. We don't go out anymore since we've had our daughter as we have no one to look after her but tba we only just want to be with her anyway whilst she's so little and cute.

With you mentioning the drink driving does all that have to be mentioned just to get in America for a holiday? Wow. 8 years is a long time ago and we've all done things we shouldnt have. I'm sure they see things all the time. They sound really strict (and rightly so under some circumstances). We worry so much about these things but they always work out in the end.

I'm fine thanks, I never get morning sickness. I don't really feel pregnant yet. We have lots going on here so we both don't feel as excited this time but I'm sure that will kick in when we have a scan. I'm after taking voluntary redundancy at work and will get a small payout so fingers crossed I'll get that and I can be a SAHM. My OH is a Transport Mananger has just been told his depot is shutting and he may have to travel 30miles each way to work, he's getting made redundant but as someone else is taking over the contract he wont get redundancy. Cheeky things! I'd already spent the redundancy money in my head too :D

i was made redundant when i was on maternity with my second little one. Management team were becoming more and more difficult and nasty and i felt they knew about the payout that would be due long before i did. Felt like they were being nasty on the hope that i would resign and therefore save money! Ha ha i just dug my heals in more and decided that it was time for my second baby. In the end they said i could take voluntary redundancy or move down the ladder back to a much lower paid job. I hadnt told them that i didnt plan to return so kindly took their money. That sounds really bad but with the amount of extra work and the low pay i felt it was deserved.

I hope your OH will be ok. You really dont want to be incomeless with a little one on the way. I am sure it will be fine.

About the usa, yes they must see things like this all of the time as the waiver non visa thing was so very vague. Surely they cant just send everyone home can they?

  • It doesn't sound bad at all. At the end of the day we're all just a number to them anyway. I can't blame you. It sounds like you had a good job.

Do you mind me asking if you felt that you lost out alot financially when you became a SAHM? I find out on Tuesday if the council have accepted my voluntary redundancy, seeing as we would struggle for childcare if I do go back , I really really hope I get it. We think we'll be down £300 a month but after tweeking things I think I can get it down to being short about £150.

My OH fortunately a job to go to, they are redeploying most of the staff to this other depot but he'll be working for a different ( rival!) company altogether , keeping his original contract. Bizare really - but its all so they dont have to pay out redundancy money. Probably a back hander.

Can't you phone someone about the Visa to check ? It'll stop you worrying and then you know either way. Just an idea - sorry can't be more helpful.

since getting married i have never seemed to beable to save money so with the reduced income although i have very few treats, it doesnt seem to make much difference. It would be nice to have the extra each month but as you say childcare is so expensive, its like working to pay for it and in turn missing out on those special moments. I worked part time with my first and although she really enjoyed herself it wasnt until i experienced it with my second that i realised i had missed out. That was also when i enjoyed the work that i was doing!

Its a good job i found this site to help at least to reduce my bills etc
