If it sounds too good to be true, it is.
My wife took a call (we are ex directory) from Roy Jones (he of Indian accent) and promised, neigh garanteed 5k. Eventually I was passed to phone (got too confusing for wife and Roy). I said I was really interested, but just hang on one moment. We then went out for four hours, supprisingly when we came back Roy wasn't on the other end of the line.
Do this everytime with those random calls trying to sell me something I don't want and it leaves a warm glow to know that I have inflated their phone bills.
It's a scam, they are all scams, scam, scam, scam. Don't get sucked in.

People like this make me sick to the stomach. They 'phoned my elderly mum, and not being as savvy as some of the younger generation, she gave out her credit card details to them and has consequently had 250 pounds taken out of her account. They just want easy money, and don't care if it's an elderly lady who's living off her pension.
It's just appalling that these companies can get away with this! Is there nothing in the law that can stop this kind of scam?!
They have my mum's credit card details now, so what's stopping them from taking anymore money?! I shall get her to 'phone the CC people, and get a block put on them, or a new card come to think of it.
However, it doesn't forgive the fact that these people are complete w****ers.
Is there anything I can do to claim the 250 back, or is it just lost forever now?! Asking Tucan is, obviously, not going to yield any results!
Any help appreciated! I'm very worried that they will take more money out of her account, but if she gets a new card then this should be fine (hopefully).0 -
We had a call from tucan claims over 6 months ago,we had not heard of them untill then ,at first we were not interested because of the £250 fee but after they had contacted us several times and were extremely persuasive and convinceing we paid up.Our biggest mistake,it has cost us numerous phonecalls a lot of interest on the card payment, letters sent in someone elses name ,and it appears confidential information we sent to them mysteriously dissapeared with them claiming we have not sent it to them.I rang them 10 days ago and spoke to someone called Sam and again today speaking to Chris getting a different story both times, but still no results.I have been made to feel i am a nuisance because of their incompetences,my advice is ignore their calls or it will cost you a lot of money.I will however let you know if anything positive eventually comes up.0

They were on the 'phone today asking to speak to my daughter, who was not in. Never mind, you'll do instead. I asked them to send me something in hard copy, which they said they would. They called themselves "Toucan", explaining "you know, like the bird". Having looked them up here, I feel sorry for Tucan if they are a genuine company (haven't looked). I also feel sorry that the reputation of the famous old Guinness bird has been besmirched - this one certainly does not seem to be good for you!0

If you have any doubt - Just do a quick search, and look at the stores from genuine news sites such as this:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2010/mar/18/justice-ministry-claims-management
rather than other companies promising the earth who are extremely unlikely to deliver.
Than ask yourself - Is the company who wants my money just another version of the same thing? We need the earth for food, water, and shelter.
The earth needs us for nothing.
The earth does not belong to us.

Depends how long ago it was. The more recent the better. I would ask her to write to the credit card company asked them to refund the charge on the basis that as the goods/services were not requested and have not been provided (if true).
You may have to escalate this through their complaints procedure.
Do not assume that a new card number means no further claims. There is a mechanism whereby continuous payment authorities can be migrated so that, for example, automatically renewing insurance policies won't lapse if you have lost or had stolen the original card. Best to check with the credit card company IN WRITING.
I also suggest writing to Toucan by recorded delivery stating that they have no authority to make charges against the card, and asking for a refund of the existing charge. They won't refund you, but it will help with your refund claim with the credit card and provides evidence that they no longer have any authority, just in case they try to make another charge. We need the earth for food, water, and shelter.

Had said Indian? ring here tonight. Very annoying asked me if I had any mortgages etc and didn't like it when I said it was none of his business. Kept going on that they were employed by the ministry of justice so I said we didn't have one in this country.
In the end I had to hang up - suggest everyone do the same or leave the line open and make a cup of tea then sit down watch the telly and drink it. :rotfl:
Looked up Toucan and found this thread........sad to see these people exploiting the vunerable really is not on.
Take care all
