We read the above with great interest since receiving a phone call from TucanClaims.

Their offer seemed soooo good since we are ex-Card Tarts (Took advantage of a several 0% Creditcards and invested that money in a high interest account - in the days when rates were exceptional!) We've several credit cards we had for years but no longer use and haven't bothered to close!

Four of these TucanClaims claim we are entitled to compensation from because they (the card companies) increased our credit limit, which they did - without our consent! When asked what compensation we'd be entitled to they said 70% of the amount we have spent since the increase occured! WOW it sounds like we've won the lottery!!!

We paid the deposit over the phone on the initial phone call then went to check the company out online. Upon reading the posts above we lost heart and decided to pull out and request a refund. On doing so we ended up speaking to a senior member of the staff who was questioned no end by us and we soon became confident we were on to a good thing.

The original paperwork we were to sign stated that their fee would be 25% of our compensation (A bit high I'm sure you would agree) but when speaking to the member of staff we were told this fee would only be 10% of our compensation. They emailed another form with this in black and white which we have signed so if you decide to follow suit - WATCH THIS POINT!

We're confident this is genuine opporunity for compensation as we have had these card for years and they fall under some 1974 Act - We hope we're not wrong!

We're surprised we ain't come accross any positive 'Yes we've been conpensated' reports through our online research - other than TucanClaims own posted 'Case Studies'

    Watch this space...
    Will update as we progress.

For those who are genuinely interested... (And not those who make snide and 'Know it all' remarks!)

    Progress... 15.02.11

Tucan confirmed receipt of our completed forms & requested info on our credit cards - We returned info.
Tucan request - Credit reports from Experian or the likes - In process of submitting.

    Progress... 05.03.11

Submitted Reports from both Eperian and Equifax - Did this for free! Equifax report seemed more detailed with details on the credit cards that our credit limits had been increased without our request! - Feel poz that we've got compensation coming our way coz of this! Till next time....

    Progress... 04.05.11

Tucan Claims have finally gone through our credit reports and sent us back forms to be signed by us which will enable them to lodge what ever claims against the credit card providers... Had them a few weeks but been a bit too busy to return. - To be honest you have to keep on these guys to make sure they receive forms returned and that they are progessing forward... Let's hope their legal team are a bit more efficient with their part of the claim process!

    Progress... 21.07.11

This update is a bit late but anyway... about a month ago we received a response from Tucan after they assessed our Credit Reports... They sent us a whole lot of forms to sign & send to each of our many credit cards along with a cheques to each which were to cover the Card company's processing fees. You have to watch these guys on this one because they do keep banging on about mis-sold PPI's which THEY think they will be able to detect and claim for on our behalf - which we know for a fact that we have none!

What we are using Tucan for (and have sent a few of the relevent forms off to our creditcard company's along with the processing payment) ...is to claim compensation for the unauthorised increase of our credit limit which a few of our card company's did without our permission - which is was illegal.

The cheques we sent to our card company's have been cashed so we know things are progressing but they have 40 days by law to respond so it could be a while before the next update again.

As far as mis-sold PPI's are concerned you do not need to use a claim company to claim on your behalf as you can do this for free yourself if you know where to look! Which.co.uk can help on this one!

    Till next time...

You must work for Toucan - if not then you are a total idiot.
I know I'm suppose to be nice to fellow MSE'rs but in this case I will make an exception.
    What total utter tosh.

Agreed... yes they fall under "some 1974 act"- said act has no provision for credit limits being a breach.

In fact every single credit agreement issued on UK credit cards clearly states that "We will review your credit limit from time to time. You can request we reduce this at any time". You will have agreed to that term by accepting the credit card and / or using it.

Ergo, no contract was breached, no compensation is due under the law and the act, and you will loose any money you paid to Tucan claims.

    Nothing to be surprised about.

Did it never cross your mind, there might be a reason for this missing positive feedback?
  • Hi I am new here, but everyone seems to have experienced the perils of tucan claims. I too got a telephone call from someone called Dave Jones, which threw me from the offset considering the person on the phone was of Indian origin, Anyway forget the name thing as it could be genuine, i was told i could expect to receive £5000 in compensation for mis-sold ppi, and actually got a verbal guarantee, but i needed to pay the upfront fee of £249.99, and i said, "if i was guaranteed 5 grand why cant they deduct this fee from my compo ,to which he replied he needed the fee to obtain my credit report, but i have got my own credit report for a one off payment of £7.50. Dave Jones continues to telephone me every Monday, even though i have told him i am not interested. After seeing all the bad comments about this company my mind is definitely made up, thanks everyone

    Well Obviously!
...and obviously we we're surprised at the same time - because that is what we've quoted.

We've taken the bull by the horns and have forwarded our claim to TucanClaims to be processed!

Perhaps some people like to dwell on negatives and report negatives without considering the fact that perhaps Tucanclaims claims are legitimate and they are in business to make a profit (not just as some people would have it - by rippin folk off). If they weren't legit then they wouldn't qualify to be registered on the Ministery of Justice website - or would they?!? Have you checked that out?

Obviously Tucanclaims make 10% from our compensation but then again we make 90% so seems a fair deal to us!

We have been told by Tucanclaims that they will be contacting us within 14 day to tell us our entitlement - so watch this space...

Fact one: We do NOT work for Tucanclaims!

Fact two: Some folk join forums to share their genuine experiences - positive or negative! Others just join forums to give folk grief rather than appreciate their contribution!!

Fact One - if you don't work for tucan you are going to be disappointed and find you have lost your money.
Fact Two - if you don't work for tucan maybe you could ask them for a small commission for your first post on this forum. As they are such a great company I'm sure they'll be happy to share their wealth around
Fact Three - most genuine experiences would be posted after a person had been through the whole process and actually had some useful feedback as to whether they had been scammed or not.
Facts Four to (probably) Twenty-Four - OFT kills 'debt write-off' industry

Fact Five - it always suprises me that people keep resurrecting this thread with their so called good experiences when all it does - if anyone reads it in full - is act as a huge negative advert for Tucan and their ilk.

or "It costs nowt to be nice"
  • I was telephone by Tucan Claims today, I am ex directory, don't have any credit cards or any debt at all, and have never been mis-sold anything (to my knowledge) I also could not understand what the guy was telling me, as his English was unintelligible, it took 15 minutes got me to understand just exactly what he was banging on about. Eventually, he told me I had contacted him in the past (I never have), told me he could help me (what with) told me it was free (looked up the web site, not exactly free is it). Damned cheek, he made me very angry, and in the end got so confused with his spiel, he didn't know what he was saying, I have probably upset him for the rest of the day. I certainly would never, ever, go to one of these places if I needed help, there is so much info on this site and on the web itself, free knowledge, I feel there is no need to pay, and certainly not to this bunch of amateurs. Stay clear is my advice.
