our family favourite is hash - chop 2 onions, a load of carrots and potatoes and chop the meat into bitesize pieces.
Put in pan with leftover gravy and some stock - and cook gently. Mine is already in the slow cooker today..but you can cook it on the hob - my mum cooked it in the oven in a casserole - leaving it open towards the end produced a sort of skin that we used to fight over!
Mmmm thath sounds lovely. Tonights tea sorted - thanks:j0 -

This is what we do... only we call it 'stovies'
My family prefer this to roast beef, and find that half the joint is for a sunday dinner and the 2nd half can make 2 or 3 nights of stovies... very economical!!!We spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. I don't and I'm happy! Mortgage Free Wannabe :dance:Overpayments Made: £5400 - Interest Saved: £11,550 - Months Saved: 240 -
I have some roast beef leftover for dinner tonight. I was going to do Madhur Jaffrey's Beef jhal faraizi from curry easy, but not completely convinced at the moment, and was thinking of beef and mushroom stroganoff-but the only recipes I can find online use cans of mushroom soup, and I don't fancy that. The other thing I was thinking was maybe beef and mushrooms in a green peppercorn sauce (have a jar in the fridge)
Can anyone inspire me or provide me with a failsafe stroganoff recipe? Its roasting here today, but don't fancy a salad...0 -
Hi hotcookie,
On a day like today I'd be inclined to slice the beef and serve it with a salad and baked potato.
I prefer to make stroganoff with frying steak which can be flash fried to keep it tender. If you are using leftover beef it might be best to braise it for a while otherwise it can be tough.
I've never used mushroom soup in stroganoff, I just use the juices in the pan from frying the steak, chopped onions, sliced mushrooms, garlic, mixed herbs, beef stock, wine and cream. There are some recipes on this thread that may help:
Beef Stroganoff
And this thread might give you some more inspiration:
leftover beef ???
I'll add your thread to that one later.

what about a stir-fry type dish? cut beef into strips, marinade in a little soy sauce, sesame oil and oyster sauce- if you like (and have) chilli and garlic slice this too, heat a little oil in a pan and toss the beef in the pan- to this you can add whatever veg you have, some noodles/rice sprinkly a little light soy sauce over the top before serving and toss.
Or you could use some fajita seasoning and quickly cook in a pan, slice some peppers/cucumbers etc add a wrap and you have a pretty tasty meal!

I bought a piece of beef and cooked it really slowly on Sunday.
But hubby just can't eat it even though it's really tender.
So it's been left to me to eat it all for lunches.
All very nice, it's a beautiful piece of beef but I don't think I can handle another beef sandwich tomorrow and the next day...
I'm divvying it up between me and the dogs but it's just not getting any smaller:rotfl:
Normally the thought of beef has me dribbling but after eating it for 3 days on the trot for lunch and knowing I've got several days to go?
I can't bear to waste it, it is really nice.
Any ideas please, I've got a beef/tomato/Primula cheese spread with chives on the go now.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

Can it be froxen - by that I mean do you have room in your freezer for it? The it can be brought out and reheated in gravy as a meal or eaten by you in sandwiches only not all at once!0

Hi Barneysmom,
If you're sick of it I'd freeze it for using at a later date. This thread has loads of ideas that should help:

I'll add your thread to it later to keep the suggestions together.
