Very unlikely to happen. If you use common sense you will be OK. Don't keep all your money and cards together. Take a money belt. Avoid dodgy areas.0 -

What's a meal out cost now?
you can easy spend 10 to 20 quid for a meal now and so that means you could need 200 quid for 2 weeks food then paying to go into places of interest. I could easily see it coming to £500 quid. So you better take double to be safe.
I've used my debit card in many places and had no problems. Taking money with you is far,far riskier. Unless you are using one of those prepaid cards. The scams you mention about bankcards etc don't just happen when you're abroad, you're still extremely unlikely to be a victim of one if you are careful.'Throw off the bowlines.

Maybe it is better just to go to the Isle of Mann then until you get a better rate.If you go India it would be really cheap. If you go to Norway it will be expensive. It depends on where you go. Also the pound is quite weak at the moment which means most Countires are more expensive at the moment.:beer:0 -

Most advice on MSE would be to take a Nationwide ATM card (if it can be used where you go) and if you can get one a Nationwide credit card. I also have a post office credit card as backup. You could also just take a small amount of cash and travellers checks as they are covered if they get knicked. I think they give you help straight away as well. So I suppose travellers checks give you more peace of mind.0 -

Exactly, its very unlikely you will be left with no money if you use common sense, its even more unlikely you'll be left with no clothes. (in which situation would that happen?! unless you are talking of the airport losing your bag).'Throw off the bowlines.

I can honestly say that a maid has never gone through my drawers no matter how much I offer to pay them.:o0 -

Why would you do that?? Hotels have a safe for anything you want to leave. You shouldn't be carrying that much money that you need to leave it in your room.
Not everyone is out to get you SP, you need to get out of this paranoid state of thinking.'Throw off the bowlines.

I wouldn't go anywhere to dangerous myself. Western Europe like France, Swizerland, Germany, Norway, Italy or even Spain don't sound all that bad but they are still somewhere you don't know the culture.:beer:0
