    Their dates are correct.

You will get a bill in September. (It will include out of bundle charges if any during your last month)
  • It will then produce a final bill. If you're on O2, Orange or Vodafone (you obviously can't be on the latter since they bill for a calendar month) you will get a final bill anyway.

If I time cancellation to end contract on 15 Sep 10 will get a bill for 1 day spose.

Cancelled my vodafone contract recently with 30 day notice (12 month contract, cashback deal).

The final bill arrived with a small cancellation fee of £1.01. Then they took 75p from bank account for final bill and got another bill and letter saying "due to changes in EU or something, affecting early termination fee, the cancellation fee was reduced) :rotfl:. I even queried the difference initially (worried I might get bad credit rating because of 26p). The last bill I got from them was for £0.00 - I am not sure if I should pay! :D I cancelled my direct debit by then

Anyway Trevor, in your situation - I would just do standard cancel 30 days prior to end, ask for contract to be turned to pay and go. And for good measure send a MMS message or visit a web site on the phone (after August bill) and get billed a few pennies to make sure you get a bill in Sep 2010.

You are on Orange; methinks you would get a bill for another full month, then a final bill in October with a refund. I would call Orange and see if you WILL get a final bill even though the contract will have ended by 15th September. You do still have the fall-back position that if you don't without incurring an extra call or day charge you can sue the3 dealer because their t&c make it impossible to fulfill the final cashback claim without extending the contract beyond 12 monhts or paying for something in addition to that cost. However, whatever answer Orange gives you make sure you get it confirmed in a letter from them. You can use that either way if needbe at the end of your contract. Don't expect any sensible response from this dealer (you know all about them given your previous experiences!).

Vodafone is entirely different; each bill covers a calendar month, part in arrears and part in advance for that month depending on when it falls due. Unless the contract commences on the 1st of the month this particular problem would not occur with them. Also, they do charge a so-called cancellation fee if the contract ends on the 365th day (so you would still get a September bill!) - but since they can't charge fo a 366th day by charging the original day twice (at the start and at the end of the contract) you can demand a full refund and they won't put up a fight.

They have just emailed me again stating their dates are correct. I have sent back stating that I WILL NOT receive a bill in Sep as my last one will cover period 15 Aug to 14 Sep and will be dated 15 Aug!!

    Arrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhh

If they reply with same message I will inform them that I will be contacting trading standards.

MJ's detailed answer above is far more informed than mine, but all I would say is that how would a network know on 15th August just how much out of bundle calls you would make up to Sept 14th, so they would have to send a bill showing £0.00 for calls, would they not (except T-Mob perhaps) That is why I suggested spending a couple of p to ensure it would happen, but in this case, take more note of MJ's helpful advice above.
  • When I got my final bill it didn't have any use of the bundle on it; I got it for an entirely different reason when I spotted a rock and swerved round it before the last bill. With the other T-Mobile contracts I am involved in with this network I will be treading very carefully on the final claims - though this isn't a problem in every case because of the billing date vs the connection date. Orange and O2 don't charge for the proportion of a coming month where the contract will be ended within that period - and therefore have to produce a final bill for the relevant credit (which you then have to ask to be sent back to you!). T-Mobile charge for only the proportion in advance that the phone will be connected. Therefore if you don't exceed your allowance (and they don't tell you how much you used if you don't) you are most unlikely (with them) to get a final bill.
  • I am going to go for a day over the 12 month contract as my cancellation date, thus a bill for the whole month and then a refund for 29/30 days whichever applies.

The full month bill will be the one I send to claim CB.

    Thanks for the advice.
