    Good thread!

OS has completely changed our lives and we love it. Had to make quite a few purchases to adopt the 'making from scratch' lifestyle, but to be honest a good deal of my buys have come from car boot sales. The electrical gadgets have been purchased from new, but using PMS money.

    Panasonic Breadmaker
    MR Slow cooker
    Tefal steamer
    Stick blender
    Hydrator (for drying food)
Yoghurt maker (we make about 3 ltrs per week)
Lots of wine making gear - demijohns etc - hoping to be self sufficient in wine in a few months :D
Baking bowls, pudding bowls, mortar & pestle, baking tins / trays and another big pan for batch meals etc.
Lots of storage jars for storecupboard items (flour, sugar, couscous, rice, pasta etc.)
Lots of cookery books (boot sale bargains)
    Microfibre cloths
Lots of vinegar, bicarb, soda crystals etc.
Value & store brand goods (as opposed to expensive branded items)

I'm sure there are lots more things that I haven't remembered. As I say, most bits and pieces come from the car boot sale.
Enjoying an MSE OS life :D

since reading the forum I have bought:
    Stardrops, microfibres cloths and vinegar.

I already had before as stick whizzer but it started to give up the ghost so i got a fabby blender all singing all danceing from my parents for christmas and i havent stoped using it. I also got a BM for my birthday ages ago, it gets some use but i dont eat that much bread.
My mum was decluttering and didnt use her SC so I liberated that and its in non stop use, yesteday i make a bean casserole with anything that just happened to be in the fridge and the leftovers are being used today.

I think i have been more inspired to live a more simple healthy life since joining in the things going on here and learning to live with what ive got rather than spend more on stuff i dont actually need!

Oh i forgot about my lovely sewing machine, mum gave me that, was an old one from her school they were throwing out coz it didnt work, so she took it had it mended and gave it to me. Problem is now the clutch has given up after i made 30 pillows and 10 drapes for a ball last week. It was whizzing non stop - till it stopped, now to find a repair shop............

    Hi Mrs(no)money,

This is a stick blender. I wouldn't be without mine and use it almost daily for soups, sauces and smoothies.

since coming on this board reguarly since march, Ive bought stardrops, started using slow cooker my mum passed onto me, started halving dishwasher tablets to make the box last twice as long and also started mixing wash powder with soda crystals which is also cheaper and washes just as well.

In my case, its not what the board made me buy but what the board has done for me!...Ive almost halved my shopping bill with all the fab tips and recipes and now I know that whenever im stuck with something, theres always someone to give advice.

Now im thinking about upgrading my food processor and also buying a breadmaker. :D
love my little man he is amazing :j

    It's not a wind up!!!:D

And no, they don't smell horrible afterwards!

I think the vinegar acts as a rinsing agent, which means that the clothes don't have so much washing powder caught inside the threads of the fabric, so they feel softer.
Anyway, however it does it, it works!
  • I'm now very well stocked up on;
Microfibre cloths and you're all right - they're brilliant!!
Stardrops - I've been panic-buying (7 in the cupboard...gotta stop) and passing them on to family and (select) friends.

I'm new here so I've yet to work my way through the vinegar section but I feel that coming on soon.

I'm intrigued by the slow cooker enthusiasm on OS but I'd be grateful if anyone could give advice to a vegetarian on using one as I can't see past veg/bean stews at the moment.

Also, can someone please let me in on some of the shorthand used ie Lol, DH, DS etc.???http://img.moneysavingexpert.com/smilies/confused-smiley-013.gif

Loving these tips and ideas as I was starting to feel stuck in lonely rut being a stay at home Mum with no money, too much housework and no ideas. At least now I feel inspired to get on with things http://img.moneysavingexpert.com/smilies/laughing-smiley-014.gif THANKS OSers
