Ive never been a supporter of strikes really, unfortunatly its genuinely reaching the point of no return with RM.
the top brass are just not listening(or not hearing) what happens at ground level.
on my last 'chat'(eg: a manager pulling me aside and asking what 'we' are going to do to complete my oversized duty) regarding my duty i was told in no uncertain terms my duty would not be cut even though he admitted its too long.
there have been 000's of job losses already and there will be more.its taken me over a year to get holidays authorised as we have had no staff
I thought that if you claimed that your walk was not possible to do in time then management were obliged to do it with you? Also, there are probably zero posties who follow the exact procedures they are meant to, such as not reading while walking, reading the first address in the pile, walk there, confirm address and then look at the next in the pile, not to mention locking the van every time you leave it and many other things that are supposed to be standard procedure. Follow procedure and any walk is going to be too long.0 -

oh yeah,if you wanted to you could stretch your duty.
hell all i would need to do is take my break before going out on delivery and finish on my time.
cutting corners wouldnt make any difference.
look at today.
5am start. by the time the mail is sorted and i have my walk tied down its 8.30
i do my redirections but leave the sorting of my codemned mail for Monday.
by the time i get to my duty its nearly 9am
my finish time (back at the office) is 11.50.it takes 20 minutes to drive back so at the latest i can leave i have 2.5 hours to do a 3.5 hour duty
i got back to the office at 12.25
i find (as usual) no managers and one postie left on to lock the office at 12.300 -
I live in London and I got a package yesterday which was despatched on the 1st.0

Getting more and more emails now from buyers with items not received. Have a standard reply to advise about the postal strikes. Most are ok but some just reply with 'there are no strikes in my area'. They dont seem to understand that strikes anywhere along the route of the mail from us to them will cause delays.
Personal RM customers can claim compensation for delays however business customers seem to get stuffed. RM should make a percentage payout to business customers if RM fail to meet their targets but last year Postwatch let them off saying 'it wasnt their fault the mail was delayed...it was due to the strike'. Maybe if RM were going to be stung by making a big payout to business customers they might work to avoid the strike action in the first place.0 -

I had a localised problem a couple of months ago. I was without broadband in our village for two days. So when I emailed buyers apologising for lack of response and communication I also gave a link to the local papers story on the problem (to prove I wasn't making it up). I had a couple of emails back from buyers thanking me and saying it wasn't a problem.
I have a standard email I send when people buy things for the past few weeks in this I have included the mention of possible strikes and I have put links to the stories on BBC website.
I have had no problems with customers I have had one email back saying they didn't know it was so bad.
I always try to think how myself as a customer reacts. I hate it when I order something and it takes longer than expected, but if I am informed of any delays I am normally a lot happier and don't blame it on the company/seller.
I have always worked on the theory the more information you give the buyer the better. Then they can't complain you never told them. You will always get customers who complain but you may be able to reduce this and you may make the happy ones happier which may cancel out the complaining ones.0 -
Hi,
I've just had 2 ebay parcels delivered this morning :j as well as some parcels for my neighbours who were out.I love this place :j:T:j0 -
Your post is in the gutter
Sacks of letters and parcels have been left lying in the gutter after Royal Mail chiefs secretly drafted in managers in a desperate attempt to clear a huge backlog of mail caused by postal strikes.
In a scene that evokes memories of the ‘winter of discontent’ 30 years ago – when Left-wing strikers brought the nation to a virtual standstill – a public service is yet again being reduced to chaos by militants determined to disrupt everyday life.
Royal Mail, seen as one of the last bastions of union power, has called time on a range of inflexible ‘Spanish Practices’ dating back to the Seventies, such as allowing postmen to go home if they finish their round early.0 -
