I've ordered some catnip toys off ebay for ours, by far the best ones are a banana and cigar shaped ones that are filled with pure catnip, a lot of the catnip toys you can get are full of foam or whatever and only have a bit of catnip in them, the one I got was the same as this.. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/COSMIC-CATNIP-BANANA-CAT-TOY-POTENT-CAT-NIP-FUN_W0QQitemZ250555770004QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Pet_Supplies_Cats?hash=item3a5649a494
But from a different seller, I got a twinpack of the banana and cigar for £3.99 I think, our cats love them!
The cigar however can easily be mistaken for a poo in poor light! :rotfl:
Or you can buy a box of catnip and fill an old sock with it and tie the end up, works just as well!Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -
Put yourself first & clip claws! They can still do normal cat things with them clipped: my Tom still managed to hunt birds!
I will say, however, that a lone kitten does require alot of attention so do make sure you spend LOTS of time playing with her. When female cat was a kitten one her favourite places was the crook of my neck & she swang from net curtains & ambushed me frequently until I got into the routine of clipping frequently (I got the vet to show me so I didn't hurt her)!0 -
My first few cats in life were vicious to the core...so I grew up thinking that was normal, but still absolutely adoring them. Sigh.
My present 'mother' cat was semi feral and a spiky liitle bundle when younger, often ripping my OH to shreds...but loving snuggles with me. Good cat!
She mated with a particularly violent Tom cat...and her 3 kids are the sweetest, most gentle cats I have ever had...They have NEVER scratched me or the furniture.
Can this be an example of good cat parenting? She has always been very strict with the kittens, and disciplines them even now ( 15 years on ) I re-homed the Dad to a neighbour so the kittens had both their parents...I guess adult cats are better at telling kittens what is NOT acceptable than we are!
I think this is an argument for keeping kittens with their mothers for a little longer...at 8 weeks they may be weaned and litter trained but have not learnt good manners!0 -

Whiskas kitten is only about 4% meat, so although the protein is higher than the adult food, it's not from a quality source. If you want to stick with a dry kitten food then you could try Pets at Home Purely (40% meat) or Applaws kitten (80% meat). If you are happy to feed a quality adult kibble then consider Orijen (75% meat), Fish4Cats (70% fish) or Purely More Meat (70% meat).
Your other option is to feed some raw food, which is what felines eat in the wild. Check out the kittens on YouTube if you want to see how much she might enjoy it!

You could go for complete raw mixes from Food4Cats or just supplement a dry diet with regular raw chicken wings (cheap as chips!) which help keep their teeth clean.

None of this is expensive, a little more than you are paying now but you should find there is far less waste coming out the other end! At least with adult cats the portion sizes are smaller with the higher meat foods for this reason, so the price per kilo doesn't work out as bad as you think. :money:Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -

I know kittens especially at 11 weeks have lots of energy to burn off and like to run around, eat things, generally cause mischief, but my kitten loves to jump on me and cling on with her claws and it really hurts me! I have cuts all over my body and it is starting to really get me down.
She has loads of toys and I always spend time playing with her, my sister goes to visit her during the day so she doesnt get lonely and plays with her, I have toys that she can bite and she has a scratching post, but she still seems to like attacking me, when ever I have my back to her, washing up, brushing teeth, getting dressed! Her favourite trick is to run up my back, and when she has her claws in, its a nightmare to try and get her off.
I am going to clip her claws, I did get the vet to try, but she wouldnt let him near her and I always tell her NO in a firm voice, pick her off my skin and put her back on the floor and say bad Kitty. She seems to know she has done something wrong, but I just cant seem to stop her doing it.
Is there anything else I can do, because I want to make sure my kitty is happy, but at the same time, I want to have some skin left! I am hoping everyday that she will grow out of it, but the after the fith attack this morning, i just broke down in tears! (and I live on my own!)
If she jumps up smack her and shove her off. She will get the message.
She does not understand NO. She is a little kitten and wants to play.
She probably left mum far too early and isnt coping well so is using you to learn. Thats why you need to smack. Bite her ear if you prefer. She needs to understand that it hurts by you shocking/hurting her.0 -
Oh no!!! Please please don't bite or smack your kitten - all this will do is hurt her and make her terrified of you. Just make a 'hissing' noise and she will get the idea. If I saw someone acting as the person above I would report them to the RSPCA - its cruel and ununeccesary.0

Smacking & biting your kitten - maybe MSE can relieve you of your pets as you really shouldn't have any.
Clipping humanely, a stern voice sayin `no' when necessary & gently releasing claws by pressing on the pawpads are the way. Lots of playing & cuddles = happy, well adjusted cat. The other advice given is rubbish resulting in a timid unhappy `domestic hostage'. Goodness me - frankly I am amazed that a person can write such things & hope not to read anything like it again0 -
|Dont clip her claws. She doesnt need them clipping and it will only distress her.

Do you actually have cats? This is a definite NO NO. Never bite your cat. You do not need to use violence on your kitten.
OP Have you read cat confidential? There is nothing wrong with clipping claws, but it might be difficult, we do not remove claws in this country thank goodness, but clipping is fine. Some kittens do climb you, but I find they do grow out of it. Our ragdoll babies used to be really bad at it when tinies, they were just all trying to get up for a cuddle, I always say they need really good climbing frames.0 -
i have clipped her claws a few times, she doesnt mind it if she is sleepy, the vet showed me how to do it properly. Its the biting she does more of now that she is 7 months old!Debt free since July 2013! Woo hoo! The bank actually laughed when I said I have come in to cancel my overdraft.0
