Right, I want you all to know that I have had kittens before so I didnt get my kitten without having expereince of raising kittens before, but I feel like my new kitten is evil.

I know kittens especially at 11 weeks have lots of energy to burn off and like to run around, eat things, generally cause mischief, but my kitten loves to jump on me and cling on with her claws and it really hurts me! I have cuts all over my body and it is starting to really get me down.

She has loads of toys and I always spend time playing with her, my sister goes to visit her during the day so she doesnt get lonely and plays with her, I have toys that she can bite and she has a scratching post, but she still seems to like attacking me, when ever I have my back to her, washing up, brushing teeth, getting dressed! Her favourite trick is to run up my back, and when she has her claws in, its a nightmare to try and get her off.

I am going to clip her claws, I did get the vet to try, but she wouldnt let him near her and I always tell her NO in a firm voice, pick her off my skin and put her back on the floor and say bad Kitty. She seems to know she has done something wrong, but I just cant seem to stop her doing it.

Is there anything else I can do, because I want to make sure my kitty is happy, but at the same time, I want to have some skin left! I am hoping everyday that she will grow out of it, but the after the fith attack this morning, i just broke down in tears! (and I live on my own!)

(edit - see last page for an update!)

Kittens are full of energy at that age. Try investing in some catnip and see if that helps.
:D *If you like the advice I give...let me know by clicking the THANKS button* :D
  • Its not the energy part I have a problem with, she could run around the house, jumping on other things all day if she wanted to, i dont mind that, its her clawing my skin (and hurting me) that needs to stop.

I didnt think you could give catnip to Kittens, but if it might help, I will def try it.

  • my kitten was like this and she grow out of it. Cutting her claws helped but I could only do a couple at a time so get someone to hold her when you have a visitor and use short plier type cutters ( I cut some of the kittens whiskas off as she wanted to look). it helps to make a note of which ones you get done so you can start in the right place next attempt! Kitten is clearly ready to climb trees maybe you could provide something she can climb (such as the curtains) masses of of boxes and brown paper scrunched up helped ours get things out of her system. You could also invest in some ugg boot type slippers and wear nice thick jeans.
  • Awww! I know exactly how you feel as my wee Dylan did this when he was a baby. His party trick was to get onto my bed when I was at my desk and hurl himself onto my back - I have the battlescars to remind me. There's no such thing as an evil kitten - she's just being high spirited and wants to play as she has more energy than she knows what to do with at the minute. You don't mention how much you play with your kitten. Some good vigorous play for as long as you can manage every day might tire her out. A bit of string or ribbon dragged around the floor over the sofa and up into the air with her running and jumping after it like a mad thing would burn up a good bit of energy. I also found it useful to pick Dylan up and put him on my shoulder or onto my desk then I knew he wouldn't be leaping onto me as he was already there. One word of consolation - your kitten will eventually grow out of this as it really is just baby play and she just wants your attention because she loves you so much.
  • Hi,

I was thinking of getting a climbing tower, but I am sure its just me she likes doing it to! I have several kitten outfits, with jeans, thick jumpers and the like! Its sometimes when I am getting out of these to get in to work clothes, or in to bed she gets me! lol

I have been trying to put her on my shoulder to, which does seem to work. It is a lot easier to do when your making tea, rather then brushing your teeth, lol.

Maybe I shouldn't have called her Ninja! :rotfl:

To cut claws wrap her firmly in a towel with only the one leg out that you are clipping. A climbing post is a good idea. She will calm down. Never wiggle your fingers to play with her. Shut her out while you change.

I used to breed cats and had this one particular lady who had been a cat owner for years apparently. When she came to see the kittens she kept wiggling her fingers to get them to attack them and suddenly goes, 'oh she bit me' - well what do you expect!! She was very precious and told me she was going to keep them all day in the kitchen and went all funny when she dropped her scarf and a kitten pounced on it - needless to say she pulled out thank goodness as I would have refused to give her a kitten.

I also had another litter who used to climb legs when they were about 10 weeks, it killed especially in a skirt! They did grow out of it, but all you can do is say no frimly and put them down.

I have a 9 month old boy and he can hang on when you try to put him down as he really likes his cuddles and is very insistent! He doesn't hurt though as he tends to cling to clothes thank goodness. Yesterday I was trying to put him down and he put his nose right up to my mouth (although not touching thank goodness, fish breath!) as if to say ah please mum I love you! I'm not anthropomorphic at all!!!
  • Ohh my god I know exactly what you mean about people who waves their fingers at kittens and then get stressed when they bite them! I am trying to stop my visitors doing that all the time, I know the visitors think its ok, but I dont want my kitten getting any more bad habbitts.

I had to wrap her in a towel the other day to get cat litter out of her eye! It was literally in her eye as well, so i will def be doing this for the clipping.
