My Kitten is Evil! What to do?

  • Hi has anyone tried the soft claws that go over the cats own.
  • Ours were bad at a certain age... they loved to climb our legs (still try occasionally)

On a bad day they'd climb the back of your legs and dangle off your buttocks (claws in said buttocks of course)

We just had to watch them as much as we could and make sure they didn't get the opportunity (didn't turn our backs on them!)
    My TV is broken!

  • Thanks guys for your reassurance. I had a good morning today with no actual clawings, just a couple of threats, I still have to clip her nails though. I love the idea of getting her a pit to jump in to.

I also got her a laser pen last week and she loves it, although i am very careful not to shine it near her face. She runs after that thing for hours, and this morning i managed to get her out the bathroom whilst i brushed my teeth.

Its really funny having to try and hide your back from a cat!

Maybe you could get a book on cat behaviour from the library? I am sure the kitten will be treating you as it's mother; she would give the kitten what for if he was too rough but obviously you can't. Maybe there is some trick like picking them up by the scruff as their mum would, which will tell the kitten NO in his own language?

  • When she is really bad, I pick her up by her scruff, as its the only place I can get to, put her in the hallway and close the door, for a maximum of 2 minutes, she hates that, and sometimes it works.

I may get slated for this but never mind........

Before I got Cleo, I did try the soft paws for gizzy. If you think that clipping kitties nails are bad well.......... you haven't tried putting these on. As they are glued on too, you have to make sure there is no unset/liquid glue for kitty to lick.

Giz hated them at first, but after 20 mins he would be fine. TBH I didn't use them for long (bought one packet). They did however solve my problem. He was scratching all the corners of the walls. Having used the soft paws for a short time, he stopped.

Also he was a complete house cat at this time. I would not use these on an outdoor cat obviously. Giz now get's out 'on demand' when it's daylight (stays in my garden). He also has a playmate Cleo which I think helped re: stopping scratching too.

what about a little water gun and every time she goes to climb you squirt her, ok so you will have the inconvenience of doing this but if it teaches her to stop then it will be worth while.

a quick squirt isn't going to hurt her or cause her distress
Life is about give and take, if you can't give why should you take?

Maybe you should do this a little more regularly? I don't see that training kittens is much different to training dogs or disciplining children, consistency is always the key. That sounds a solution that isn't cruel but makes you physically safe, so it's a potential win-win.

  • She does have her cute moments, especially when she is carrying her fav sock in her mouth, bless her.

Aww! This made me melt!! :)

Our cat used to do this when he was a kitten, but I think he just grew out of it. It was brutal in a skirt! It was usually when I was in the kitchen cooking and he wanted to see what was going on at the worktop level, I think that was the only way he could think to get up there! Climb up mum! :rotfl:

I hope yours grows out of it soon. I doubt she's evil, just mischevious ;).

Its offical, the cat has gone from having personality to pure evil! She was at the vets yesterday and the vet refused to handle her after she came round from her operation! I have to laugh though, because she was absolutly fine with me!

First trip to the vets, the vet said Ninja had personality, and didnt think she had been around many people (she gets loads of visitors)

Second trip, even the receptionist said she could hear the cat crying, screcching and hissing, from reception, which is through two doors and about 10 foot away from where she was.

She is fine now, however she still has her moments when she bites me, I just am more used to it now. I am still persuing the naughty room idea though.

I did feel really bad but told the vet what I had been doing and they said, that sometimes cats are just like that. Althought they then did add they hadnt seen a cat that bad for a long time! Poor Ninja, she had to have extra pain relief, i think she was a little scared.
