When you say you use 'hibernate', do you mean you NEVER restart the computer? As computers need restarting after microsoft updates etc else they wont work properly

I switch off every night or when not using it for several hours. Put into hibernate if not using it for hour or so.

Start computer in safe mode. Go to the messenger folder and rename it something like 'messengeroff' reboot and it's gone.

Im stumped, can only suggest you post a new thread re the "administrator" bit, also try "Digital Spy" if your not on that site. I even did a quick "Google" no joy.
  • I'm currently trying the above suggestion by using safe mode but first I've had to look up safe mode and how to use it, Have written it all down and am now going to give it a go.

My car's having cambelt fitted so I'm waiting for work to be done and using the service area's wireless network so have time to concentrate on this problem. I'll be back shortly.

  • Zandoni (or anyone?) I've got into safe mode, followed all the instructions I found on the web and all looked as it should but where is the "Messenger folder" you refer to in your above post? I looked in programmes, control panel, and anywhere else I could think of.

In a much earlier post I replied to someone's query that I have Windows XP 2002 Service pack 3 if this helps.

Did anyone try my suggestion I posted in the other post?

Two threads now running on how to get rid of Windows Live Messenger
  • Yes I tried it. All that happened after I pressed the "start" to download it another box appeared with an icon describing itself as zapmessenger but nothing else, no instructions as to what to do next. If I knew how to incorporate a screen shot into this post I'd do so.

do you have .NET Framework installed before running ZapMessenger?
  • Yes I saw that question when I opened zapmessenger and it said most new computers (my laptop is new) have it installed. Where do I look to see if it's installed?
