Damn you, OE, for starting up messenger every time!
Ok, I assume what the problem is now is that you can't see the tools button. So you'll have to turn that on first before going through the steps listed above.
There should be a little button over at the right hand side. Click it and see if there's anything in that to show the menu bar. Then follow the steps above.Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0 -
Download Search Everything ,type messenger and all associated files will appear. Highlight one of them then edit/select all, right click and delete
Very simple to use.
Will remove movie maker as well.
That sounds good but when I have got rid of progs in the past I got messages about shared dll's.
Isn't this method a little risky?0 -

Being a genuine microsoft product I sure as hell wouldnt attempt it
It IS simply unticking 'auto start' but I believe people must be forgetting to click 'ok' afterwards:idea:0 -
Start computer in safe mode. Go to the messenger folder and rename it something like 'messengeroff' reboot and it's gone.0

If you are referring to the Windows Messenger and/or MSN Explorer applications supplied with Windows XP, you can 'remove' them by following these instructions:
- Click on Start→Control Panel
- Double click on Add or Remove Programs
- Select Add/Remove Windows Components
- Uncheck Windows Messenger and/or MSN Explorer
- Click Next
- Click Finish

I followed the above instructions (twice) but Live Messenger still appears on my screen when I start-up it's so annoying - any reasons why I can't get rid of it?fitzroy0 -
look for MSN messenger, in the same list. Win XP was shipped with Messenger, Live messenger was the new name that didn't remove the older version.Survey earnings total 2009 £417, 2010 £875, 2011 £5740
