I've found .NET Framework - this is the list shown under programmes on my computer:
.NET Framework 2.0 service pack 2
.NET Framework 3.0 service pack 2
.NET Framework 3.5 SP1
Hope that makes sense!fitzroy0 -

sounds about right... so you downloaded the zip and run the executable, you click confirm to say you want to run the program, a window appears saying "ZapMessenger" and you click on the start button?0 -

Thanks for staying with me Martin8. I went to ZapMessenger through the link you gave in an earlier post. It said something like "download now" I pressed the image button for download. I don't know what "run the executable" means - nothing came up on the screen with "run" or anything else nor a start button. All that came up was what looked like a Windows "window" if you know what I mean with an icon top left corner.
As I said in my post above I took a screenshot of it (TangleFoot gave me instructions how to do that many posts ago and I've got several screenshots of my various efforts including Ccleaner). I followed TangleFoot's instructions (also many posts ago) to upload the shot to TinyPic - it said "uploading image" I waited 10 mins. My Jpeg image didn't appear. I tried again, went away for 20 mins - still it said "uploading image" and nothing appeared. So I can't even show you what I mean.fitzroy0 -

Just out of curiosity, are you using Internet explorer to surf the internet?
If you are, clicking on the link and clicking download will save the zip file to your computer. If you are using vista you can then doubleclick on this downloaded zip file to bring up another window which should contain a program inside named "ZapMessenger.exe"
Doubleclicking this ZapMessenger.exe should run the program and thus the new window that appears will contain this start button that you have to click to start uninstalling messenger.0 -

Deleted! Given the number of "views" on this subject - well over 800 now! - and even if lots belonged to those helping out on this thread, thought I'd let you know that I did it, eventually, with Ccleaner following the instructions in post # 30 by "danmanchester".
I'd tried it before but couldn't get Ccleaner to download properly (I don't know why) through the link so went through Google. Also, in his post danmanchester said look in the "Start Up" list for Messenger but I couldn't find "Start Up" until I realised you have to click on "Tools" first to get into "Start Up" simple when you know how but for a complete novice...
I'm now going to lie down in a darkened room for a week.
Thanks to all of you for your suggestions and time taken. Lets hope any other computer novices out there will have found the thread useful!fitzroy0 -

Thought I'd post an update on this subject. In my last post I was delighted to have finally got rid of WLM only for it to return. Eventually, in a forum on a website especially for computers a member showed me how to uninstall it permanently. You need to look for it in "Windows Live Essentials"; "Live Messenger" is hidden away in there - very sneaky! I followed the instructions to uninstall and it's been two days and I've not seen any sign of Messenger since.fitzroy0

That suggestion had already been posted on this thread - it didn't work.fitzroy0
