I'm sorry but not being at all techie minded not familiar with how to do any of the above
I now have another problem, I've lost Internet Explorer by that I mean I can open my internet account but I can't receive nor send emails.
Is it something I did when trying to get rid of Windows Messenger? On my first attempt I saw the icon had disappeared from my desk top so I went back in, following the instructions a few posts above, and reversed the procedure and hoped I'd reinstated it cos the icon appeared again.fitzroy0 -

Windows XP 2002
I went into 02 Broadband Assistant and followed the instructions and it did a fix so I'm now able to send email.fitzroy0 -
To take a screenshot, follow these instructions. When you get to step 5, change the Save as type to JPEG before pressing Save.0

Thanks Tanglefoot. I don't have a printer at home so can't print out those instructions. Next time I shut off my computer and re-start it and the wretched Windows Live Messenger thingie comes up is there any way I can keep the WLM on screen while I go into your latest post, bring up the instructions and follow them to take an image?fitzroy0

It should stay there until you do something with it.0

Right, I'll give it a go.fitzroy0

Another way to manage stubborn start ups (if the msconfig method looks too daunting) would be to download and install ccleaner.
Then open ccleaner, look in your startup list and just delete or disable Windows Live Messenger from there, it shows as "msnmsgr" in the list in this photo screenshot:
