I was on SIM only but now on standard 24-month contract.

    Handset 1 - SE Cedar.
Most commonly used location - North West Leicestershire
Ease of reliability and connection - Fine. Signal perfect for so long I thought the signal thing was stuck :rotfl: Good signal in a limited signal area and better than Vodafone! Phone rubbish but that's not 3's fault. Consequently am now on...

Handset 2 - HTC Desire HD.:smileyhea:heart2::heartpuls:heart::happyhear Dam I love this phone :rotfl:Internet connections etc good, signal fine but a couple of dropped calls, nothing Im unduly concerned about tho as Cedar used to do the same thing. Way better than Vodafone - havent really had to deal much with customer service so cant really comment on that :)

Also typing this on my 3 mobile broadband - way more reliable than my BT fixed line broadband!!! (which has gone off AGAIN :mad::mad:)

    Handset: Nokia E71

    Most commonly used location:
    University of Warwick/ Coventry

    Ease and reliability and connection:
Extremely easy to use. No issues with connection at all, occasionally the 3G service disconnects, but I believe that's a battery saving measure on the phone that does so when the phone is inactive (watching long youtube videos etc.). Otherwise, I've had no problems even when abroad, I get an SMS from both Three and the carrier they're tied up with abroad notifying me of charges etc. 27 pounds a month for unlimited bandwidth, 5000 texts and 2000 minutes of calls, no complaints at all.

    Any other problems:
None whatsoever with the phone, connection and costs at all. Customer service can get tiring to wait, but they are responsive and quick to deal with any issues. Only other minor gripe is that if you don't pay the month's bill (carrying over to the next month) they automatically disable the international roaming; making you call to reactivate it. But I guess that's just a insurance feature to make sure people don't run away calling in other countries without paying.

Overall service and rating (out of 10): 9/10

I am a 3 customer and have been for 2 years now.

I own a Nokia 5580 XpressMusic, which is actually a very nice phone.

I received notification that I qualify for an upgrade so I went to the 3 shop in town for a quick chat about my options.

I obviously want an iPhone 4 and the chap said it would be 69 pounds, and I would need to upgrade my tariff from 22 pounds to 35 pounds per month. On a 2 year contract too.

I asked how much it would cost for someone to just walk in off the street to get an iPhone 4, he said it would be exactly the same?

I am a bit confused about this as I assume qualifying for an upgrade meant I would have some kind of special incentive to keep my custom??

    Rather bizarre :)

I think because their prices are really competitive they feel that they don't have to offer any incentive to keep customers. The only incentive I ever got offered was a few quid off mobile broadband because I was already a customer.

Oh and chances are that anyone who has had cashback issues - learnt the hard way that any deal that involves cashback is offered by the 3rd party selling you the contract (essentially if they get £200 commission, in theory if they offer £100 cashback they're taking a 50% hit on their commission... like you ever see the full £100) and has nothing to do with 3. Try explaining the situation to 3 customer services and they're genuinely not being ignorant when they say they know nothing about it.
  • Hi

I am considering going on to contract from payg to get a smartphone, my circumstances have changed and I can afford to pay up to £35 a month for a phone. I see on CaptainCash.co.uk they have an offer running unitil the 14th April to join three and get £120 cashback on the One Plan contract purchases using the click through link.

    Is this a good deal?

Anything that involves someone other than the Mobile Phone Service Provider giving you money back at some point is always open to problems. Some people have no problems, some have nothing but problems - it's that hit and miss!

Personally I never trust cashback sites.

They always sound good but it's ages to get the money and you're putting yourself at risk of things going wrong.

Your best bet is usually to get a sim only deal and a lower end phone instead of having to claim the money back to make it worthwhile.
All I want is the chance to prove money can't buy me happiness ;)

I'm not saying it's the case here but attractive cashback deals are often encouraged/incentivised by networks.

I have the Sony Ericsson Zylo phone on 3. 24 month contract (boo), about 5-6 months into my contract, and the signal in my bedroom is rubbish! My old Sony Ericsson phone has better signal in the same place! I've diverted my calls if I can't be reached to my old phone, and earlier today I had both phones roughly in the same place and the call got diverted to my old phone!

It's since the signal has changed to only 3G in my area no G. I'm thinking of buying a new phone and selling the Zylo. I got the contract for the minutes/texts weren't bothered about the phone, but it needs to get signal, maybe that's why no one called me offering me interviews for almost 3 months! They couldn't reach me!

3's "all you can eat" data - I see their website says that on PAYG, their first tariff is £10 for 30 days with 500mg of data. The next one is the £15 deal with the "all you can eat". I guess this is more than 500mg?
