    Handset: HTC Wildfire
    Main Location used: Indoors
Connection reliablity: No signal indoors, slow to refresh signal outdoors.
    Problems: Tons, read on!
    Rating: 0/10

Back in Oct 2010, I entered into a contract with three mobile. I got the phone to use in the bedroom at night (for emergency use, mainly) and internet at night. I'm disabled and reliant on carers. so having an emergency phone is important, since I cannot get myself out of bed.

Anyway, from day one with three. I had NO signal indoors on that darn phone. Checking my T&C, it said I had 7 days to return the phone if I was disatisfied. So, a phone call was made where I explained I had no signal. Three customer services staff are IMPOSSIBLE to understand. Moreover, they barely understand you. Upon explaining my signal issues, they advised me to....... (ready for this?)

    NOT USE THE PHONE INDOORS

Of course, I had bought the phone FOR indoor use (mainly) So, I requested they terminate my contract, since the phone was unsuitable for my needs. Three persuaded me to keep going and they would try to help. (my 7 day cooling off was melting away) After 4 days and several useless fixes, I insisted on a cancellation. They refused to cancel on the basis that I 'had sent 40 text messages & used the internet' which traslates as : I had sent my number to all my contacts and connected to WIFI at home!

Of course, I've since learned that switching the phone on renders your 7 day cooling off thingy useless, that's nice for three. Convenient that I didn't know I had a problem, until I switched it on. When my cancellation was refused, I threatened to cancel my direct debit and hung up the phone. Needless to say, I haven't cancelled my direct debit yet, as I am afraid of charges. I know that if I cancel my contract they will demand full payment of the remaining months (£20 per month for 20 months! total = 400 quid) I don't have that kind of cash.

Four months on : Since all I was able to use the phone for was internet via wifi. I've removed the sim and popped in a 02 one (full signal yay!) I'm paying for both contracts. Any advice anyone?

Out of curiousity, I decided to have a look back at some old bills from Three. In the past six months I have only paid my full bill twice because of problems with them. Now, that's either good customer service or it's bad customer service, depending on which way you look at it.

    Just thought I'd share.

If you can connect to Wifi why not make calls through skype?

  • 3 customer services are useless. We have at best an intermittent signal on my wife's phone so the 'technical team' are trying to sort it out. As she is a teacher she isn't available during the day to discuss the problem, so what do three do? Call every day despite them knowing she can't take the call. Today, they called her mobile (she's left it at home as it's next to useless) 'can I speak to Mrs WhitmoreReans please?' No you can't as she isn't available until six thirty, as I have told you every day this week. No problem she says, I'll call back then, which in strange 3 mobile land means that they'll call my mobile immediately after 'can I speak to Mrs WhitmoreReans please?' No you can't, for the same reason that I told you thirty seconds ago. 'no problem, I'll call back then', which actually means, 'I'll try the land line just in case'. 'Can I speak to Mrs WhitmoreReans please?' !!!!!! NO, for the same reasons that I gave you twice in the past sixty seconds. To top it all of they've just sent an sms to say that they are closing the enquiry as they haven't been able to get hold of Mrs WhitmoreReans. Why is it so difficult for them to understand that SHE ISN'T AVAILABLE UNTIL SIX THIRTY! WHY SAY YOU'LL CALL BACK THEN WHEN YOU'VE NO INTENTION OF DOING SO?!?!?!?!?!?
I hate Three with a passion. Rubbish network, rubbish customer services.
  • I'm looking for a new phone after leaving Orange.
    I need about 300 mins, 100 text and 1GB a month.
I don't really want to pay more than £12 a month.

Am I better off phoning 3 to haggle or just go through a cashback site and pick a phone/plan from their website?

If you try and go through a cashback website for a Three phone you'll probably end up with no cashback, have a look at the topcashback comments about Three.

I got my iPhone 4 on Three via Quidco, £100 cashback, phone cost £99, £30/mth, 300 mins and unlimited texts, 500mb data. So free phone and £30/mth, signal is fine, data is excellent...No complaints.

I got my first 3 contract in 2005/6 via Quidco expeting £100 cash back. Nothing received despite raising queries. Case was closed last year; I tried everythign but there was nothing I could do.

    Good Luck

Really? Must be the luck of the draw, mine came through and was paid within three months.

    Most commonly used location:
    Windsor/Maidenhead/London

    Ease and reliability and connection:
The signals not as good as Vodophone (who I've just changed from) but overall for only £35 per month for unlimited usage, I cant complain. I pretty much get signal all the time, and would prefer to have slightly poorer signal at times, to paying increased amount a month. I would recommend the one plan.

    Any other problems:
