Three have let me down again! Prior to going on holiday I called Three to make sure that roaming was switched on (I was waiting for the outcome of a job interview) and they assured me that it was in fact already enabled. Why, I asked had it not worked when I was in France six weeks earlier? Or the six weeks prior to that? (Before anyone asks, roaming was enabled on my handset) Ah, they replied, it will definitely work where you are going on holiday, absolutely definitely, I even received two text messages to say that it was enabled. Guess what? It didn't work. At all. This is now the third time that I haven't had any service from Three for a considerable period and I want, desperately, to give Three the boot. Does anyone have a number for UK based customer services? every single time I've called the Indian based customer services they've either been incapable of intelligible communication or have given utterly useless advice. I would rather stick pins in my eyes than remain a customer of Three.

Try this number, I haven't tried it myself but apparently it can help you get through to the Glasgow customer services:
01628 765000 and ask for Glasgow

HOpe everything works out for you. I don't know if you will only be able to get through to India at the moment though seeing as it is holidays

Well, I've decided not to go with 3 in the end. To go on an unlimited contract (at half price line rental) in terms of voice and texts is important now my circumstances have changed. Hoping the merger of Orange and T-Mobile may change things with regards to data usage.

In terms of data, I'm going to keep my 3 sim for the iPad as a 1 month rolling contract is perfect unless I need more on the road access.

Have you thought about GiffGaff it uses 02 network unlimted (really is unlimted same as three) 10 pound a month paygo no monthly contract.

Been with three for a few years now and never had a major problem. Had a few hitches when trying to switch a bill to my name but I think this was due to the language barrier. But was later corrected.

Have been on my new contract (One plane Desire Hd £23pm) for a few months now and still no problems. Although signal is shoddy i'm used to it and expect it. The unlimited internet is a real life saver as I can tether phone to laptop when working in kitchen as I cant receive wireless signal.
  • So I have had a phone on Orange for about 3 years, as such I have a great contract, £15 a month for 300 mins & unlimited texts. I am now up for contract renewal but just called Orange who told me my current contract was no longer available to me, the cheapest they will do is £25 a month and 'if you don't want that don't take it, its as simple as that'...very rude! I mentioned the current iphone contract that Three have to this wonderful customer service representative & she said 'its all very well having a three phone but if you can't get on the internet what's the point' (I did tell her that due to masts being down in London I haven't been able to use my ORANGE phone for a month!)
What are peoples experiences with getting online with Three? I live in North Herts & work in central London, having checked on their website coverage looks good...but then they would say that!
  • I am just coming to the end of a 2 year contract with Orange and so have been looking for options after this. I have an iPhone 4 (bought sim free) and use quite a lot of data, so I have been looking at the one plan on 3.

I bought a PAYG sim card and topped it up with the all you can eat 15 bundle a few weeks ago just to test it out, see how the network is and how good the signal is.

Have been using it on and off, and I am quite impressed. A bit patchy at home and it falls back to Orange 2g most of the time, but all the networks are pretty dodgy in my house (combination of the valleys and thick walls).

However, everywhere else it has been really good. Solid 3G from Cardiff to the Valleys, near enough solid from Cardiff to Bath, the same in rural somerset. Much better than Orange are.

And the all you can eat is brilliant. I've gone over my 500MB allowance with orange quite a few times, so will be nice not to have to worry about that.

The only thing that is putting me off is the reports about the customer service (or lack of). Still think I will go with them once my Orange contract runs out though.
  • Thank you, that is SO helpful. I must admit that I have struggled with 3 customer service in the past, but the last time I had a contract with them was in 2003. I was thinking that maybe if I get the phone instore then I can go back there with any problems rather than calling them.

I think with foreign based call centres you can always expect a few problems with regards to the language barrier. However, whenever I seem to ring 3 they are always willing to try help even if they end up not understanding the problem.

From experience I think 3 shops can help with handset problems. However, they dont get involved at all with billing problems as they dont hold the information.

Live near St Albans, work London North and Central, and 3 has been the best of any network I've had my iPhone on.
