Ah thank you for explaining that - looks like the start of a slippery slope...
Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.

In some limited areas where three have decided their 3G coverage is sufficient (e.g central London) you can no longer roam onto the orange backup network.

    Is that fact or speculation?
  • Odd mine doesn't and that includes a change of phone too.

I've had a couple of Nokias & found that when I set them to Dual Mode it all worked............menu>settings>phone settings>phone>network>network mode>dual mode. Hope this works for some of you too........& I live in the middle of nowhere!!!!

Well it accords with my experience since last summer except that the signal disappears all too often every day. Before then it was fine.

Its absolute Fact Rob. 3 obviously pay Orange more to handle a call on their network than the cost of connecting it on their own infastructure so in areas where 3's own service is good then the opportunity of using Orange has been removed.

So nothing to back it up then other than personal experiences? As far as I know, nothing of the sort has been actioned. Indeed I can still use the 2G network in Central London if I wish too.

I work for 3 Rob and can promise you that in areas where our own service is sufficient then the roaming agreement with Orange is NOT available.

Any areas you could give as examples? As mentioned earlier, someone claims the 2G backup doesn't work in Central London, but it does for me -is it down to individual masts rather than larger areas?

In general it is down to whole areas but not wholly limited to this. I cant really go into huge detail as I don't work in that department and wouldn't like to mis-advise you. But we are gradually reducing the orange reliancy more and more but we do advise customers of this when their home address is to be affected.

Absolute rubbish service. Spent a day in central london 2 weeks ago, got "emergancy calls only" ALL day.
SE W880i, signal erratic at best until I switched it to GSM only, now only marginally better.
    Rude customer services. 0/10
I posted the following elsewhere the other day, perhaps I should have put it in here:
I found out on 25th Aug via an advisor on 3's live chat that they are scrapping their 3mail (email - geddit) service as of 1st Sept 2009.
Having kicked myself repeatedly for missing out on the chance to leave the sinking ship because of the removal of the "3 like home" service (you only get 30 days to tell them you want out), I thought this would be my ideal get-out.
I spoke to several advisors on the phone, all of whom told me that the loss of 3mail was not detrimental to me, therefore i would not be able to terminate my contract without paying the outstanding balance of my account. I repeatedly told them that saying it "isn't detrimental" is merely an opinion but they are having none of it & refuse to budge on the issue.
They also kept telling me that the service wasn't part of the telecommunications service & that they had checked with the regulatory body & they were acting within the law. Is this just BS designed to fob me off? Anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions?
