Wedding venue problems - want to cancel.

As for other brides, there's not much you can do about them but I can put the word out to fellow wedding planners in that area.

MSE weddings are good - if you're on facebook there is an MSE Weddings Group with most of the folks from here on it.

Thanks Horace, that would be appreciated once sorted!!! - you just reminded me about that facebook group too- had totally forgotten I had even joined that months ago!!! Just had a quick check and its been quite quiet!!

Hi Beks Have just read your thread from start to finish, How awful all this has been for you, my heart goes out to you, but I hope you will get your money back. Still no wizer on the venue but off to do a google search.

The reason I looked was just today, my Brother had his venue cancelled and I was sooooo cross. He lives in Kent but is getting married in Wales, I by chance found a lovely venue for them when I was over there, they went along payed a deposit etcetc but last night the Golf Society decided to hold their AGM and golfing weekend at the same time, so got someone to ring and cancel their wedding, all invites, maps, hotel bookings have all been sent/made. Its a nightmare.......... but we will sue for breach of contract, if its not resolved, thier contract comes first.

You have a very strong case anyway, but after reading 21 pages couldn't remember if you had included the appaling reviews in your court papers? If by chance you get a naff judge you must appeal and include the information available, you can even point out exactly when you thought to look at reviews because of this forum, it shows you lacked confidence in the venue before all the other information came to light.

I will be watching this forum from now with fingers. toes, everything crossed for you, You go girl, YOU HAVE DONE AMAZINGLY WELL SO FAR and this only bodes well that you and MR Beks are set for an amazing life together after such a shoddy experience.

Thank you Debs - your poor brother, that sounds like a complete nightmare.
You definitely have grounds to sue for breach of contract, I cannot believe that they have double booked something over the top without a second thought for your brothers wedding, that is awful. Have they given alternatives/refund/anything??!! I so feel for your brother and that is worse than my situation, at least we never got round to sending invites etc and we havent lost money (although we have lost all confidence in gettting married at all lol!!)
I hope your brother has his wedding day resolved. And thank you for your support and suggestions, I am hoping we wont be going to court but if we do, I will use the information you suggest. (I hadn't included it in the court papers as I didnt want them to think that was the only reason I cancelled but I think it is an important aspect of the whole issue).

Thanks Beks No worries, we don't get messed about, my bro looks like a cross between the Mitchell Brothers on eastenders LOL!!! I'm the legal wiz, even MADE a solicitor release a Will last year........... and well my Mum :mad: .... my Bro rang again last night and spoke to the person the booking was made with and she is in agreement with us so is going to sort it, either that or we let loose our Mum on them LOL

Have found the venue, I suggest when all this is sorted with yourselves we all post reviews, blimey over 2/3rds of pepes don't recommend the place.!!!! either that or they get lots and lots of wedding enquiries by email :beer:

Have you contacted the main group at all and let them know what is going on?? Go to the contact page and scroll down and at the bottom you will see the group name.

I complained about a hotel earlier this year The Nottingham Gateway its NAFF, didn't bother with the hotel as complained at the time but went straight to head office, but I got 50% off our next stay and a free upgrade , we went before Xmas and was given the same room with the same mold, but with a lovely four poster bed in, and its now their bridal suite, I was disgusted I wouldn't want my wedding nite there, it was Ok for us we only paid £88.10 for 3 nights and as we were visiting friends and family locally, but won't be going again.

Happy to help with letter wording, I'm quite good really if I say so myself.

Thanks Very much Debs! Wow, your family sound like a [STRIKE]scary[/STRIKE] knowledgeable bunch!! Hope it is all sorted out ASAP which I am sure it will as you all sound very in control (still must be pretty stressful for your brother and his w2b even if it does get sorted):D.

In terms of the main group, no we have not contacted them individually but we did include them in the business we sued (ie we sued Mr Smith (owners name), trading as The .... AND The .....). This was in the hope that it meant the group would be aware aswell. I was also unsure as to whether this larger group was actually owned by him too (not sure if this is possible), as he owns at least 2 pubs in that group (passed onto him by his dad who was apparently a better manager).

Once this is sorted, I will be dong anything in my power to ruin the reputation of this business, I know we are not the first now who he has done this (or worse) to so I see it as my responsibility to put the word about! The reviews on trip advisor are just shocking! :eek:

Just wish he would hurry up with the money! (Although I am still expecting complications in one way or another, I just can't see it being this simple otherwise surely he would have just given us our money back:think:!)
