If you have house insurance, ppi, card insurance or pay for your bank account then you can sometimes get free legal advice with them. I think I can get 10 phone calls in 12 months or something like that. You could phone them and see what their take is on going public, there are so many places that would print your story as it is public interest.

Did you see the thread on here that said ***** is a really great place I totally retract my comments, other MSErs kept the thread going for pages and pages then kept checking where in google their thread was

That thread is brilliant, because he clearly has been threatened and that thread makes them look even worse :rotfl:
:rotfl:Ahahah got my signature removed for claiming MSE thought it was too boring :rotfl:

Thanks Lexxi - I used the bank account insurance for advice originally and they are only interested if they have money to gain. I think it is quite a specific field so I may try and contact one of the papers (the usual suspects and ask specifically about libel etc).

I havent seen that other thread - not the same venue I presume? Would be interesting to read.

Frannyann - yes, I think the same as you with regards to who is liable for things published in papers but I need to convince OH of this and I need evidence to show him. I am looking everywhere for something but I think the only way for me to do this might be to approach one of the papers. :)

No, this was an estate agents, I think the OP originaly posted for advice then got threatened so posted a retraction, I think I linked it on your thread in the arms.
I'd have thought if you told whoever you went to to tell the story about your concerns then they could tell you what they do as I'm sure they've had this situation before

Ah ha!! Now I know the one -just had a look and it is still going ... great thread - if it comes to that then I will just have to oblige and retract everything. :D

Wow. Just read all 54 pages but once I started I couldn't stop.

On the good reviews, it looks rather like they've been written by the same person - the style of writing is similar (they've tried to make it different in places but that's self-consciously done and screams same author), they use the names of staff (a lot of them have mentioned the name of wedding planner and at least one mentions the chef by his first name - who knows that??!!), the adjectives are similar and they're clustered. Not the same dates, but not very far apart.

Tripadvisor registered users can report suspicious posts for the very reasons above, very easily done once you're logged in.

For example if you're reading the reviews of The Blazing Donkey in Kent and think that some are dodgy, then report them. TA has the tech nous to check on IP's , email domains etc etc.

But if these posts have been posted by 'friends' of the proprieter and are false that way, there is nothing you can do. :(
I have reported the fact to trip advisor that there are only positive reviews after such a stretch of negative ones (and only after the proprieter complained and threatened legal action), yet they are unable to prove anything and neither am I? The fact that they removed my one post, goes to show it is not necessarily everything it seems.

But if there were several 'report a problem' sent, by different users, then TA might have a good close look at the posts and double check the tech origin anyway - and if some came from the same source they'd be removed :)

I'd better check - we are talking about

    The Blazing Donkey Country Hotel
    Hay Hill
    Ham, Sandwich
    Kent
    CT14 0ED

    aren't we?

    Google is our friend ;)

Aw Bek's feel so bad for you & your oh, why can thing's be easy? Not sure if this is any help at all, the reviews may get taken down from the website but they can't be deleted from the internet full here arte the terrible reviews on Qype for the Blazing Donkey in Ham and the deleted Tripadvisor review for the Blazing Donkey in Ham if you google it, towards the end of each result is a "cached" result which has a store of a page as it has appeared previously (maybe someone more technical can explain it better)
    Booo!!!
