    thankyou everyone for the tips.

we managed. i just hope the cooker turns up tomoz before hubby starts work so he can connect it up. although next task is trying to learn to cook with electric as i'm only used to gas. but only planning on keeping cooker for a yr or so till we get a range one, so i'm not too worried.. unless i really like the new belling one.

as for rice i didn't even attempt to try to cook it, although expensive i bought some microwave bags of rice. which just needed to be blitzed for a minute or so. Had a really nice curry tonight. cooking by microwave i think will always baffle me. but should i be without a cooker again there some great thread to help me though.:T

How about getting a small one ring camping stove - the gas is relatively cheap depending where you go ( not Argos they are a rip off) or a 2 ring electric hob.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

I have just been offered a council house and can move in start of next month! :D:D:D

However, the property has no carpets, no cooker, no washing machine, single glazing and no shower. None of these really bother me apart from the no cooker. My current cooker belongs to the property so I will have nothing apart from a microwave, steamer, toaster, toasty maker, slow cooker and a kettle.

I am just trying decide if carpets or cooker is a priority.

It would be the cooker for me, when we were decorating we lived without carpet for ages in most of our rooms and it wasn't too much of a problem :)

being wthout carpet in the summer doesn't seem so bad, so if you're able to get that sorted by winter then I would go for the cooker.

I've managed fine with a combi oven, steamer, slow cooker and toaster for the last 18 months but my combi oven died a couple of weeks ago and the replacement I want isn't available at the mo; I have a cheapo microwave but I'm really struggling without a proper oven! ;)
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D

I managed without a cooker when I first moved in. Only had a microwave and deep fat fryer! You can be very inventive. If you need to save up a combi oven/grill or a halogen oven (Charity shop?) will help too.

  • I would work out if you can afford both by the winter, as come winter a single glazed place with no carpet will be freezing!! You can often pick up cookers on freecyle have a look at a group near you usually plenty around where I am.
