  • We are redoing our kitchen and I will be without a working cooker for 7-10days :(

I will have a remoska, microwave, kettle and charcoal bbq (which I would rather not use too much) So I reckon I'm OK for baked spuds and pies and stews (have that sort of thing frozen ;)) but would like to be able to make pasta etc-can I do that in microwave? Or will I hv to buy dolmio micro pasta (do they still even make that?:o)

If you put the pasta in a pot and then tip on boiling water to cover and stir well, put the lid on the pot and then leave for 20 - 30 mins. Should be OK.

  • If you can't why not just forget about eating pasta for a week? Or you could make and freeze some pasta bakes and reheat them in the microwave.
  • you can pretty much cook any pasta or rice in the microwave :)

  • Never tried pasta but I regularly cook rice in the microwave. Rice, cover with boiling water by about a cm, add a knob of butter and a dash of salt. Lid on, set timer for about 5 minutes. Then lid off, stir, have a bite - if it's cooked but a little wet put it back in for a few more minutes. If it's still undercooked but a little dry, add more water and blast for another few minutes.

I'm never sure of how long it should take as I just faff about!

i always cook rice in the microwave, 1 cup of rice 2 cups of hot water - 16 mins done.

pasta takes a bit more water and takes about 12 mins..

depending on ur microwave power of course...

but both are easily done and turn out just fine :)

I always cook rice in the microwave oven. Rinse it to remove starch then place in a bowl, fill with boiling water from the kettle and microwave on 750 watts for about 10-20 minutes (time depends on type of rice and amount). Then just strain and serve. It's really consistent, once you know how many minutes you can just set the timer and let it run and get the same perfectly cooked rice every time.

I never cook pasta on the hob now, always in the microwave - couldn't be simpler. Use a large microwave safe plastic container (small ones might boil over), put the pasta in with a pinch of salt, boil the water in the kettle, pour over the pasta and pop it in the microwave for about 12 mins. Whatever you do, don't cover it, but this is really the easy way to cook pasta.
