Meals with no oven or hob!

Options
We are moving house next week and it will be a few days before our new cooker can be delivered. Do you have any suggestions about what meals we can eat that don't need cooking..? We don't own a microwave but may be able to borrow one.......
We are two adults and a 3 year old.

Grateful for all suggestions!

I would go into town and buy a slow cooker. A basic one costs £20, and will allow you to cook most things.

  • You could cook a load of jacket potatoes in the oven (then freeze) then beg/borrow/steal a microwave to re-heat them?
:D**Thanks to everyone on here for hints, tips and advice!**:D

  • thanks for the suggestion but our new cooker has a slow cooker included so it won't be worth going to buy another one just for a few days.

Sandwiches, salads, Pot Noodle, Cous Cous.
You can also get hot chickens from the supermarkets.

Nachos (premake the chilli/mince bit), get value tortilla chips, some grated cheese- layer up and serve with salad ?
TBH if you can borrow a microwave most things can be reheated in there!

whenevr we've moved house one of the most satisfying meals is fish and chips from the wrappers surrounded by boxes!, its second to fish and chips on the beach if you ask me!! :rotfl:

anyhoo - if you can borrow a micro i have a cracking recipe here - like a pasta bake? i dont generally cook in the micro but this one has come in very handy in times of emergency, i can post it tomorrow eve if you fancy it.,

other than that, for no cook stuff you are looking at salads - but, i would be more than tempted to bbq - forget the weather there's always a way to shelter cooking outdoors! turn your moving adventure into an adventure!! :D

i'll 3rd (if no-one has already!) the slow cooker, cant beat em! ;)
  • You could always try a remoska, you can cook almost anything in it, but after using that you might think that you have wasted your money buying a cooker.

Ask around and see if you can borrow a camping stove?
  • Some of the most nutritious food is uncooked such as salads, vegetables, fruit and nuts (not for the 3 year old). Wholemeal bread and cooked meats can be added as well as yoghurts and dried fruits such as raisins and apricots.

I have a Kelly Kettle that I have bought in preparation for going camping. Mine came with a small pan and frying pan that are big enough in which to cook a few sausages and beans or boil a few eggs. I havn't cooked food on it yet but i have boiled water in it for free using a few twigs.
