Hi Judi - welcome aboard. 4 rugrats and studying?!:eek:You are a complete heroine!
What I want to study...well I've been putting off writing it - mainly because you will all think I'm a complete nutcase (more than you do already) - and I REALLY don't want to get into any 'debates' about the whole thing. I want to study...theology. I have my reasons - which I'm happy to share - but equally don't want to force anyone to read (IYSWIM).
The plan has been to stop work and go to college (and yes it is prohibitively expensive - and not the kind of course you get sponsorship for;)) - but I do have one or two 'tweaks' to the plan which could mean working a day a week - or maybe studying part-time/distance - which I didn't want to do, but am still looking into.
ANYWAY - thankfully today is my 'official' day off, so I don't have to feel guilty about not being in work. 2 out of 3 rugrats in school today - driving this morning was a bit hairy (to say the least!):DOnward and upward - with the odd step to the side

I don't think you're a nutcase Rupe! It's very interesting and i'd love to hear more about it
I would really love to do an MA. While I was doing my degree, my tutor tried very hard to persuade me to do one, but by then, I'd had enough of studying and wanted to earn money. Years later, when I'd worked for a few years and had a mortgage, I enquired about doing one. All the ones for my career are in London - miles away from me, but distance learning would have been possible. Then I got pregnant, so that was the end to that!
Good luck, it's incredibly brave and really exciting! :T0 -
thanks Macgirl :T- having a bit of a crisis of confidence today - possibly its just cos I've been couped up for too long due to the snow. Went to the gymn this evening (figured if I can drive the rugrats to school in the ice, I can drive myself somewhere;)) and felt so much better afterwards.
But still - just a wobbly day re the FUTURE (scary laugh).
I really would have liked to have done a masters after my honours degree - but I was pregnant with rugrat no 2 - and to be honest our uni weren't exactly proactive in talking about future options. I was one of two people who got a first in my year for my subject - you would have thought they might have at least had a passing conversation with me about continuing to study:rolleyes:. MIND YOU this was in the 'good old days' when there was a lot less 'hand-holding' (IYSWIM):rotfl:Onward and upward - with the odd step to the side

Hi Rupe - no i don't think you're mad at all! My mum is 70 asnd she is studying theology - she gets ordaned this year - so she will be my reverend mother!!! Do you go to a church? is there any support from them to do this? thats how my mum is doing it. Not exeactly sure if it is te same sort of course with te same end. (sorry for my ignorance!) Don't doubt yourself - you have obviously thought long and hard about this and are making provision to pay fees etc so it is obviously something that is important.
Altough I ave studied since my eldest was 2 (16 years ago!) on and off it is hard - this week I took 2 days off - yesterday and today to do an assignment - but schools are off and all 4 kids around so wrote about 500 words! Off again today - but DD1 as taken DD 3 and DS to a play area to let me get on!
Better get gone and do some work - but stay strong!0 -
Oooh, I got a 1st too! - not that it makes a blind bit of difference in the World of work
You're bound to feel wobbly, it's a big step. But far better to go for it and feel slightly nervous. You will feel so invigorated when you get accepted onto the courseAlso, the fact that you haven't had any "hand-holding" means you really want it, you'll be great!
A friend of mine is a mature student and has just graduated from a 6 year part-time degree. She now wants to do an MA at the Royal College of Art. She said "That's where I'm going - it's meant to be!" She said that if she doesn't get a place, she'll deal with that later, but for now, she is only thinking positive. That's the way forward I think!0 -
Theology is a very cool subject to study.
It makes for a much more interesting topic of conversation in the pub than mathematics or particle physics. Mind you the gent who was responsible for intruducing me to theology for theologys sake because it was fun rather than dreary religion was a rural dean with several promotions behind him who firmly believed that religion was about people not places and insisted that all his adult baptisms were performed in the sea, preferably in the south of france and so lead an annual church outing there every year for a fortnight. He also paid us £3 per saturday morning to don cassocks and sing at weddings although the tone deaf amongst us were paid an extra 50p to mime.
The same gent was responsible for my very expensive tastes in whisky and my ability to atgue the toss on absolutely any subject just because I can.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -

Makes me think of my brother at school - he used to be in school productions, but when it came to singing the teachers would 'save him for the national anthem':DOnward and upward - with the odd step to the side

Dudes - just heard today. Interview in a couple of weeks:T:T:T
OH decided to have a go at Martin's super duper budget planner this evening - for when we are just living on his wages again. It will be tight but doable. Crucially though - NO WAY to save the fees for 2nd and 3rd year...which I knew, but didn't want to think about until things had moved on a bit...Onward and upward - with the odd step to the side

:hello:Around 4pm had a perfect 15 minutes - Radio 2;) Indie songs from the 90s while I was having a shower. :T:T:T
Anyway - I was showering to get the DUST off me. I have been de-cluttering the junk room - oops I mean study. Bleurgh!!! Dust heaven - and unearthed things I haven't seen since we moved in.
Have even had my first foray in the world of on-line selling:eek: - listed some books on Green Metropolis. Who knows if they will sell - but it got a bit addictive actually. This may lead to me getting the boxes of books out of the loft and seeing if I can shift some...Onward and upward - with the odd step to the side
