Just thought I would update the Maggie fan club. Thanks again for the lovely messages of support! yous kept me sane when the sh*t was hitting the fan.:A

She has been (touch wood) doing great. She is using the loo, eating abour 1.5-2 pouches a day and is really excited about food. I have her in my arms and show her the pouch, and she starts going mad licking it and rubbing it, and tonight eating it from the pack when she was in my arms! Wee character! :rotfl:

Another pic, ive not checked to see if she looks different yet, but this was about ten minutes ago. I think she looks pretty puffy, but will see. Possibly not the best light in this pic.

The only thing she hasnt done as her old self is play, but that's ok. She has had a rough time of it lately. I finished her antibiotics today (well, i didnt finish them you know what I mean!):rotfl:

    Furry kitty :T

(Actually she looks funny! Ill get a better one tomorrow :) x

Post 37 was pic from this day last week, just before the vets.

My god, I can really see a change! Her beardy chesty bit! Fluffy wuffy was a cat! :rotfl:DSC00511.jpg

Edit - cuddles received greatfully from mse fan club :)

  • Hi Zippy,
Wow, what a change, she looks like an extremely well-fed pampered Maggie now, how lovely to see after all the trauma of last week.

You can really see she's feeling better now by the condition of her coat, looks like a completely different kitty now.

Thanks for the updates, it's great to keep up-to-date with all the progress.

I wouldn't worry about her not playing at the moment, she's been on antibiotics and they do tend to knock cats a bit sideways so she may not have the energy to play. Once they get out of her system you'll hopefully find she'll be back to her normal self again.

Take care and big hugs to Maggie as always. x

HI TRH! Doesnt she look so different?! I am quite amazed. Going to send a few pics to the vets with my letter - they dont really see how much animals change so i think it would be good

No, not worried about her not playing - its just all i can observe in her behaviours iykwim?

One more pic of the cheeky wide awake face tonight :o

I dunno it's weird. I'm not sure if we are out of the woods yet and when to stop worrying!

  • Hi Zippy,
AAAAAHHHHHH!! What a lovey picture and what a mischievous little face!

I'm sure the vets would love to have some pictures of Maggie and see what an amazing improvement she's made in a few short days, she clearly has a lot of fighting spirit for such a little one.

I know what you mean about knowing when to stop worrying. I think you have to take each day as it comes, keep a very close eye on her (which you're already doing) and just be prepared that she may suddenly take a turn for the worse again. Fingers crossed not though and you have a healthy Maggie for some time to come.

Take care and hugs to Maggie x

Thanks TRH... just as i thought things were calming down. Nothing terribly bad has happened but she has had the runs today. Normal colour, just liquidy. She isn't used to eating all this wet food as has only had the urinary food for years - so I am wondering if it is just too rich for her to handle.

The vet did tell me to get her to eat anything. Am going to try cut down the amount of wet food and hope she eats more dry but am scared of her not getting enough food, just as she is fattening up.

Do yous think I should call the vets ? Or give it a day or so and see how it goes? She is in great form - still her pink blanket is her favourite place, so isnt spending much time with me as she would have pre sick - but I think that's ok and nothing to be alarmed about. She still visits me regularly, is happy when i go in say hello, and chases me about like normal. Still purrs like a machine.

Shes only finished her tabs on Monday. So should i call the vets? She is sitting miaowing to get on my knee!

I'm no expert but I would guess the runs are just a consequence of the wet food she isn't quite used to and the fact that she has finished a course of tablets that might have made her a little constipated.

Just keep a good eye on her, encourage her to drink plenty to replace any lost fluids and ring the vet's in the morning - unless of course she continues to have diarrhoea this evening and overnight (in which case I'd say ring Vets Now).

Hi Jon, thanks for your reply. I think it is surely something to do with the food, the urinary stuff is obviously special food, so its bound to upset her stomach. Its a bit like a veggie eating meat after 7-8 years or something.
I am keeping a very close eye - she is in super form, purring away, even had a wee happiness dribble earlier . If anything else happens i will be right on it, but i think that is her in bed for the night.

I will leave a message for the vet to call me tomorrow. Thanks again. Sorry, i hope this isnt a boring thread, it's just hard to know what to do. I don't want to over panic , and i dont want to underestimate things iykwim

  • Hi Zippy,
I think it's probably to do with change in diet and the antibiotics. Antibiotics are renowned for upsetting a cat's digestive system and it sounds as though she's been on quite a high dose one to counteract the infection. I'd be inclined to go back to dry food and try her on some cooked chicken - it's really bland and will settle her stomach. That's what my cat lived on for a couple of weeks after he was really sick, recommended by my vet.

Poor little Maggie, she's been through the mill recently and so have you. I know exactly what you're going through and it's really hard sometimes to decide what to do for the best. I'm sure your vet will be able to give you some good advice in the morning.

Take care and hugs to Maggie x

  • Hi Guys. Ok spoke to Gina this morning, and she said rather than rush her in again, she is giving her another course of antibiotics? She said it is most likely to do with the food and that I have to give her more dry than wet now. Maggie will refuse it for a day or so (as cats do), but to bear with it.

So i have to cycle from the clarendon docks to the castlereagh road, get the tabs, call in home, give her one, and cycle back here.

Really tired today, and don't even have the energy but that's whats gotta be done.

Gina said she is worried about her liver .

I could just sit and cry, just when i thought we were out of the woods.

Thanks TRH, i really have been through the mill with this, being sick and much other stuff.

  • Just to say we're all thinking about you and Maggie.

I would definately try her on some cooked chicken. I've never known a cat to refuse it ... especially when it's roast chicken just out of the oven!! As TRH says, if you give her that and some dry food it should settle her system.

It sounds like you've got a really good vet. A lot of older cats have liver problems (been there, done that, bought the T-shirt) and if they are monitored by a vet they can go on as happy moggies for quite a few years. Your vet will always advise what is best for Maggie and, as long as she's coming for cuddles and is a happy cat I wouldn't worry too much.
