Hi Trying! Ok, i have been out most of the day!
I went upstairs last night and caught her coming down from the attic, down the
ladder steps :rotfl:She came into bed with me (last two nights she was here, i left it
open and she never came in (always does when normal). She got under the covers,
then stayed in with me most of the night. I came down this morning, and she must
have wanted a play as her conch thing - the food was all over the carpet (she paws it
to get he food out).:T
Gave her her antibiotic this morning (which she spat up 5 times...) and then went
into the kitchen and she was begging me for more food! So is still eating very well.
Has tried to use the litter tray but not much has came out (sorry tmi) so just need to
keep an eye on that.
So....... it's all looking much better than I thought, although it is so hard to know. She is down here now, and was up on my knee a minute ago, so is content and purring like a harley.:T She is much more active than last week - its quite unbelievable. My mum will be here soon, so she can also judge what she thinks.
I even let her out in the back yard for 5 mins (knew she wouldnt go further)- she likes to sniff to see if other cats have been about.:DA little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

Hi Zippy,
Wow, that's some improvement in a couple of days. If a cat has the energy to spit out a tablet, that's a sure sign of improvement!! :j:j
And it sounds as though she's eating to make up for lost time!! :j:j
She is sounding so much better and you must be so relieved.
Hope the improvement carries on over the weekend, don't forget to update us.
Take care and lots of hugs to Maggie.

Hi all, wee update. Thanks TRH, I am super pleased! :jI never seen the tablet thing like that! I really am relieved but I am monitoritng her every moves at the mo
Yesterday she had good bit of dry food, and wet . She kept asking for more wet food - and i figured on the tuna one she only likes the jelly. The chicken one she wolfs down so have put out half of one of those today and i put her out 40g of dry. (Not used to feeding her wet food you see, so only learning)
She is drinking, and some TMI - SHE DID A PROPER POO! :rotfl:The last time she has been was around Sat i think and it was serious runs, but this was normal. Also had a long wee today - and before she had only been weeing a tiny amount so i am hoping these are good signs.
She is sitting on my knee at the mo! I was out all day yesterday and when i came in, she got up on my knee and lay down, so she was planning on staying there a while. Then my Mum came in, with her noisy things, bags, talking etc and she wasnt happy lol. Think Mum burst her bubble of sitting on my knee all avo.:rotfl:
She was very clingy yesterday and a bit pathetic, but today seems on great form. Came and woke me up this morning (thanks!), has taken her tablet eventually, and is sitting on my knee purring as we speak. :T
All good signs.:jTrying to make sure she drinks plenty of water, so i have her pint glass = one upstairs, and one beside her food. The wee weirdo only drinks from pint glassesA little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

She does seem to be struggling to sleep though - she is making herself stay awake. Maybe its all the unsettledness from being at the vets? She fell asleep on the bed beside me last night when I was watching tele, then she woke up , sat straight up and started purring. Then down again after a while, and her heads going - almost like she doesn't want to miss anything? Anyone any ideas? You can see she is tired, but she is avoiding sleep when I am around it seems. (but i am sure she sleeps all day when im at work)A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

What a transformation!
Regards the sleeping, or rather keeping herself awake - she's probably just enjoying feeling well again and enjoying her surroundings rather than being focussed on the pain she was in from that abscess. As she's eating, peeing and pooping, purring, drinking, moving etc all as normal I don't think her sleeping is anything to worry about. Mention it at the vet next time you're in of course, but really everything else is fine and she is quite obviously not in any pain or discomfort, bless her little cotton socks.0 -
Hi Zippy,
That's brilliant news, what a change from a couple of days ago. Love the idea of a cat drinking from a pint glass, what a little character your Maggie is!
Agree with Snowy, she's probably so grateful she isn't in any pain now that she wants to make the most of your attention and all the food and drink she's getting - making up for lost time. She'll sleep when she wants to sleep, don't worry about that!
Hope things continue to improve and big hugs for little Maggie.

Hi all, just thought I would update! Figured out the fussy mare only likes chicken whiskas, she eat 1.5 pouches yesterday, and about 20g dry! Also has used the litter tray again and fully formed things have came out so it's all good!
I think 1.5 pouches is quite a lot - i dunno. How much would a cat normally get in terms of pouches? 2 a day?
She is doing great, it's so funny when she has the tablet in her mouth, shes looking at me like "right, let go so i can spit it out"!
She is a wee crazy. Going to take a new pic of her today and see if she looks any different. Also need to write a thank you card to the vets. I called up on Thursday and left a message for Gina from Maggie - saying that she had eaten, and thanks for the cuddles etc. They probably think I'm mental to be honest. Ill pop a pic up later

Happy kitty
On comparing pics, I can definitely see a change from post 37 the day she went to the vets - tuesday. DefinitelyA little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

I'm SO pleased Maggie is on the mend. The abscess must have been making her feel really rotten, poor little thing. She looks so perky now and there's a sparkle in her eyes. She's got that 'thanks for making me feel better' look in the last pic!
The black and white cats we've had have always had 'personality plus' - and it seems like your Maggie is just the same - a bit of a character!!. I love the whole pint glass thing.
About the food - one of our visiting cats will happily eat two pouches in one go if he gets the opportunity (and it's not like he's starving as his owners look after him well). Maggie will tell you when she's still hungry and, like humans, every cat is different. Unlike dogs, cats seldom overeat (although we did have a 17 year old tortoiseshell with a weight problem!) Some will be happy with a couple of pouches a day and some cat biscuits, others will put away 3 or 4 a day and will be miaowing for more. I checked the back of the Whiskas packets we have and it says for the average 4kg cat 3 pouches is sufficient (or 2 if they eat 20g of dry food as well). The Tesco's pouches say 4 pouches a day. If you want to try to fatten her up I'd be suggesting 3 pouches plus some fresh meat, biscuits or treats.
I guess Maggie will happily oblige by letting you know when she wants to be fed ... and will turn her nose up if it's not what she's in the mood for!!
We should definately start up a Maggie Fan Club!! Give her a cuddle for me xNorn Iron Club Member 3300 -
Hi Zippy,
Thanks for the new pictures and what an amazing change in a couple of days. She looks bright-eyed and healthy again and her coat is all groomed and getting shiny again - so good to see.:T:T
Like Jenny, I firmly believe b&w cats are the best, they are such characters and seem to have their own personality, am thinking Maggie is one of the real cat characters around!
Agree with Jenny. I would feed Maggie what she wants for the moment, she'll get fed up of eating (excuse the pun) to make up lost time soon and get back to her normal eating patterns. She's probably eating more at the moment to try to regain some of her strength again - cats know what they need to recover from illness.
Don't worry about the vets thinking you're mental, they probably really appreciate you letting them know how she's doing - lots of owners don't bother.
Hope she continues to make progress and give her a big cuddle from me. She definitely has a fan club on here. xTRH

Just wanted to pass on my best wishes and say I'm glad Maggie seems to be on the mend.
While she's recovering and getting used to her normal eating, sleeping and toilet patterns it might be worth changing her litter tray a little more often than usual, just to minimise the risk of any infections and to make sure that no smells put her off using the tray.
One of our cats is prone to struvite-related problems (bladder infections) and we have to make sure that poos are emptied from the tray as soon as possible and that the tray is changed a couple of times a week, just so that he is happy to use it regularly and not hold anything in for too long.
Also, you said Maggie appeared to be tired but trying to fight off sleep. We notice this in our two cats if they've had an overnight stay at the vets so I wouldn't worry too much about it. After his most recent stay, one of ours was a little unsteady on his feet. I worried at first but he was back to normal after a couple of days.
I'm sure Maggie will be the same and I wish you many more happy, healthy years with her.0
