Thanks for keeping us up to date about Maggie. It sounds like she's feeling a bit better in herself. Fingers crossed for good news when the vet calls.

Ok, so i have spoken to the vet.

She has not got better or worse - much the same

Has only had 30 hours worth of tablets so not sure how much we would like to change in that time?

Eating but not a huge amount
Vet wants her to come home to me, as i know her best and can judge her best. And also to see if i can get her to eat any more food. Just have to take it day by day. See how she is in her own surroundings. Also will get antibiotics to give her.

So i will get her back tomorrow at 6ish, all being well!

Also said she got the pink blanket i dropped in the vets for her. She has been using it like a little barrier, and is like cosied up, with just her eyes peering up above it! I can just imagine her doing that!:rotfl::j

Really excited about the thought of her being here again. Have to remember she could go down hill, so i have to ring the vets in the morning, then afternoon again, to check the plan is still the plan. :j:j:j

Fingers crossed people! Hoping if I can get her home, she will eat more as she will be pining for me.

There is also the possibility that she doesnt get better, and those three words I dread come into conversation "quality of life" . And then I know what I have to do.

    But, possibly, yay!

    Come on Maggie.

I keep thinking i hear her coming down the stairs.!

  • Hi again,
Brilliant news that Maggie will hopefully be back with you tomorrow. She'll feel much more comfortable and confident in her own home so fingers tightly crossed that you get her back.

30 hours of tablets isn't a lot in an elderly cat so don't think there would be much improvement in that time but it's good news that she hasn't deteriorated - especially as cats HATE being away from their home and routine and are not inclined to eat while lodging at the vets! (been there, bought the T-shirt!). I'm sure she's getting a lot of comfort from her blanket, that's probably helping to calm her down a bit.

Really hope you get her home tomorrow, she'd be so much happier in her own home and with her own routine and you can hopefully encourage her to eat more once her mouth calms down.

Fingers tightly crossed for you and Maggie. Let us know how you get on tomorrow.

    Take care

Thanks Trying. Yeah its great news but am trying to remember - the vet has told me to take a day at a time. And i dont think 30 hours is long either - but then i think i am trying to rationalise with myself maybe...... Will be so pleased to have her home, living completely alone isnt as pleasant any more! I hadnt realised how much company she was .... until now.

Im thinking - what if , what if and trying to imagine allt hese different outcomes and am doing my own head in.

Trying to think positive but I dont want to build my own hopes up. I am however really hoping i get her back .

I really hope she makes improvement at home.

It is good shes not got worse. The thing the vets seem most unsure about is how advanced etc this is - they really dont seem to know. She hasnt been to the loo since shes been in, but shes not eating a lot either. So the vet said we can re assess on friday . Oh, ive started myself off again. Thanks.... this is a good vent, i cant talk about it much in real life, im sure people are sick listening (but i have 4 people to update each time i get one, so lots of people adore her) .

Its not good, its not bad (but yay!):D:A

Just spoke to the vet, and she is still on schedule for coming home. She is hoping I get to keep her over the weekend - but again doesnt want to raise my hopes. She said it certainly isn't a cat she would put down today, and just to take it day by day.

Bit happier that shes not at that stage. Vet said she knows she is giving me her at the weekend . There is a risk she could suddenly go downhill, which means I would ahve to use Vetnow, but I am prepared to take the risk, as i think she will be better at home and will surely eat more .

Hi Just wanted to say Good Luck, having had cats fr years, I know the power of good it does them to be home, I grew up with a cat that hated being at the vets and would not eat or drink and would cry till he was home, more than once the vets advised putting him down as he was so weak from not eating, but the senior vet who knew him always suggested bringing him home and then deciding, each time he settled immediately, eating and sleeping and made a remarkable recovery. He was 22 when he finally passed away peacefully at home in front of his favourite fire.

One of our current cats had an accident and the vets gave up hope of him recovering (had stopped weeing) and sent him home to say goodbye to the kids, we were told to take him back next day, but when we went back the vet was amazed that he had been toilet fine at home! He sitting on computer atm while I type.:)
  • Thanks Kidcat, confirms my thoughts too, cats are so much better at home. My elderly cat came home for the last time (according to my vet) at least three times, he kept going for another 6 months after the last last time.

Zippy, really hope you get Maggie this evening, she will be so much happier at home. Lots of TLC, spoiling (and fresh cooked chicken!!) required. It is a risk at this stage but fingers crossed the TLC and lots of curling up on her favourite blanket bring her round.

Thinking about you, I know very well how you're feeling at the moment.

    Take care

Are your vets called Tom and Gina? If so then they are the ones who look after our cats; Tom and Gina are superb at their job and your Maggie is in good hands.

They sure are. Absolutely fantastic - both of them. They have been so kind, understanding and really really helpful. I'll see Gina later today when getting the kitty. it was Gina told me she has been giving her cuddles, and that really put my mind at ease a lot. I can't imagine every vet going out of their way to pass on information like that.

Kidcat - that's a lovely story about your kitty. I would rather she went at home on her own - but then again I guess every owner wishes that on their pet . It's the ideal as no painful decisions involved. 22 is some age! if I can get her to eat and put a bit of weight on, she will be better I hope.

trying - thanks, that's really sweet and Eeyore too.:A

getting her at about 6.
