We have just fed 30 riders and horses and the local university pipe band today on their annual lunch stop during the Riding of the March. I just tried to find a website to explain a bit about the history of the Riding of the March or the Common Riding as it is sometimes known but basically the March is the town, village whatever and the the Riding of the March entails horses and riders riding round the boundary of the March and is a big event in most Border towns such as Hawick. As you can see from that website in Hawick its a week long event and the Ensign and Equery from Common Ridings all over attend each others ride although not always on horseback.
So apart from the riders we also feed families, friends, the police who escort the riders to stop the traffic, St John's Ambulance people and most importantly the council people who provide the porto loo!
Sadly for the past two years the riders from Riding for Disabled who have stables in the area have been unable to participate due to the prohibative costs of insurance. A real shame as they thoroughly enjoyed their day out and every person got to ride at least one segment of the long ride.0 -
Well, we are a small but select group today, aren't we!
P-P Sorry you had another bad night ((((HUGS)))) Hope Stannah have been and managed to stop your stairlift from beeping! Glad to hear the people who went to Blackpool are having a good time - hope it stays dry for them. Heaven help the Pleasure Beach with them and all the Young Famers!:D
Catowen I bought what was labelled as a "Cornish Pasty" at the Farmer's Market Rzl and I went to the other day, and although it did taste nice, it had CARROT in it.....I'm sure Cornish pasties aren't meant to?
Queenie Your spontaneous gardening made me think of a book I've got called "Gardening in Your Nightie", by Helen Yemm. She talks about how you (well, she, and many other people!) wander outside first thing in the morning, cup of coffee in hand, just to see how everything's getting on, and end up still there an hour later. She teaches gardening classes, and one student asked her what was the usual thing to wear to do gardening. She said in her book, "Well, it's obvious. You garden in your nightie. And wet slippers." She added that she had stopped wearing pyjamas because they got soggy round the bottoms!I can't manage to do any gardening at the moment and I really miss it. Maybe next season!
MATH Lovely to see you back, we really missed you! So sorry about you MIL though. Hope Little Miss Mathlett's arm will soon be better!
Think I'd better go now as seem to have dyslexic fingers today! Will come back later to catch up.

Just been shopping to the local Wyndsor's world of shoes.
I got a pair of comfy sandals.
DD got a white pair of sandals
a white pretty pair of shoes
A pink pair of sandals
Just the pink pair should have been £35 - but we got the lot (including mine) for under £40!
Very pleased with our bargains.
Going to see my dad in hospital later and got him an extra pair of pyjamas so that he can change every day. The fever is making him really uncomfortable and the ward gets very hot.
Bought a bottle of Magicool - hope that helps.
Potato salad and sausages or chicken for tea but need to pop out for spring onions."This site is addictive!"
Wooligan 2 squares for smoky - 3 squares for HTA
Preemie hats - 2.0 -
Hi All,
Its very quiet today, I hope its not raining In Blackpool like it is here. I thought maybe someone might have taken a laptop with them but it looks like we will have to wait for all the gossip.
Just like Pooky, my porch is getting fuller and fuller with all these O/S veggies, and I have never grown runner beans before and was amazed yesterday how they have grown overnight, its like Jack and the Beanstalk around here!
Hearing Queenie and Moggins dicussing posh coffee, I bought some coffee syrup from Aldi a couple of weeks ago and its lovely, might have to go and dig out that cafitiere now and make some.
I am off to have a quick tidy up/whip round then make a shepherds pie for tea, DD's have swimming lessons and we wont be back from them until about 6.45 ish, so the shepherds pie will just need warming up.
Glad to see MATH back but sorry to hear about little Miss Maths arm. I can sympathise, when I was 9/10/11 I suffered a bout of breakages, I broke both arms twice, (4 seperate occassions) and was in plaster for 3 successive Xmas's, (so unable to unwrap presents) it was a complete pain as all I wanted to do was ride my bike/roller skate/go swimming like all my friends. I hope she is "unplastered" soon. Very sorry to hear about Mrs MATHs mum too.
Right I AM going now, bye!!!0 -
Hello everyone
I can hardly stand the excitement of my weekend...today I had a lie-in, got up and showered, ate a bowl of porridge, went to post office to get a tax disc for my car, then ferried some rubbish to the dump, and in between got three loads of washing done. The best bit of the day so far was having some toast and cottage cheese for lunch. Going for a wee walk now, then home to do some studying. So there, told ya my weekend is exciting, don't get too jealous!!!

Afternoon all!
Just a quickie today, not much time to spare.....
Took mum to the market this morning to the pet store to fill up on goodies for Reg her dog. Grabbed a sausage roll for my breakfast whilst we were out too.... (that will teach me to leave getting up til the last minute - or not)
Got back and we were supposed to be gardening this afternoon, planting on and stuff but as it was such a nice day (so far) we decided to go for a drive with the roof down; Nothing like the breeze blowing through your hair on a hot day!
Well, the weather strated looking a bnit grim so we stopped off in Bakewell for a snack (Lamb and mint pasty:rolleyes:) more junk.....
Just got back and decided to make a batch of gingerbread men which seemed far too gooey to me so ended up as gingerbread biscuits which are just in the oven...
Off to mums in a mo. As we don't have dss this weekend we are getting a chinese and sharing it with mum. Since dad died she doesn't get them as it's always too much for one.
So food today looks like
Breakfast - Sausage roll
Lunch - Lamb and mint pasty
Tea - Chinese
Not very OS at all. Still I suppose the biscuits have made up for it slightly!
Glad to see the OS meet gang are having a fun time, it's years since I last went to Blackpool!
Have a good evening everyone

I don't go for 'exciting' anymore. Generally when I say 'I wish something exciting would happen' everything goes severely pear-shaped. Quiet life for me, then!0 -
Hello all,
We are back from our break, have just 5 days to turn round the laundry etc before we go off housesitting for a week.....
We got back after 8pm last night, having stopped off to see a friend on the way back. House was very stuffy, so windows open, the ants are out in the lounge so little bits of plastic dotted around the floor to lure them to drink deep of the nippon, we usually have to put the stuff down twice before they get the message that they are ok in the garden but not in the house.
We had a very pleasant week away, I was sad to see that both Looe and Polperro were suffering from a surfeit of fish and chip and tat shops.....we went to Eden a very good day, warm and sunny...... we also went to Morwellan Quay, well worth a visit another pleasant day......
3 loads of washing done today 3 more to do.....a load in for tonight, hope it stays fine.
Living in the sunny? Midlands, where the pork pies come from:
saving for a trip to Florida and NYC Spring 2008
Total so far £14.00!!0
