Mushy Peas - We have just sold our house. It's been one of those long drawn out contracts. The first one fell through, so I was expecting the worst with this one. I suppose I shouldn't count my chickens before they hatch. It's tempting fate. In 2 weeks I can shout from the trees. We bought a block of land nearly a year ago to build a house on over here on Lamb Island. Once up, (it's a small kit home) we hope to come over to UK for a working holiday for a while. For about 12 - 18 months we are thinking. I have family in Scotland. We've got our ancestary visa's now so it was the house sale that was the pivotting point. We've had our own business since 1990 and we sold everything. (but that's another story);) We had our own construction business. I also worked part time.
Hardup Hester Welcome to OS. I love your name btw.Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0 -

Well after accepting new job yesterday, couldnt sleep last night thinking about it, got abit worked up/upset - "bad mum thoughts at leaving kids, etc etc" DH said i should phone and cancel job. anyway after sleeping on it, today I think I should at least give it a go - if I dont I will always be wondering what it would have been like or regretted it?? at least if i try it and dont like it, i will know and i can always leave cant I?0 -
Good morning everyone!
Aussielass - glad it's all going through ok
PP - sorry to hear you had a bad night, but what a relief that the TMA is done (for now!)
Moggins - you can do it!:T :T :T
Hi to everyone else, too - and wishing a good day to all who have to go to the unmentionable place. (why is it unmentionable, by the way?)
Having had a week of being totally unable to do anything last week, it is nice to be up & about today. Washing is on it's 2nd load, D/w empty & everything put away, even the sink is as shiny as it gets. Bathroom is gleaming, I have done my exercises, looked at emails... oh, I feel pleased with this morning... until I look round the rest of the house which is still suffering from a week's worth of neglect. It is very daunting!
I had just been panicking about everything that needs to be done, and thinking that it was too much so I couldn't do it.
But then I realised it didn't get this messy in one morning, so why should I worry if it's not back to normal in one morning? Right, that's my thinking done for the day....:o :rotfl:0 -
Hi Shez
Sorry to hear you are worried about the new job, change always brings on stress. I was lying awake last night thinking about house moving! I think your suggestion sounds like the best one, try the job and give it a couple of months. You'll never know unless you try.
Soz, but I'm not meeting up in London, wish I was! I was just reminising about being thereLet's have a coffee together instead :coffee:
Hey Chipps your morning sounds v. productive well done. As for tyding the house, I find that once it is tidy....I just have to start all over again! Which reminds me. last night's washing up.....Previous debt: £14K :embarasse Debt free: Sept '03MFW#42 Mortgage OP savings £4271.18/£12000 2019

Morning all
Moggins - :j Good luck
Bit of a strange weekend, not sure I really enjoyed it - far to much sleeping for one thing - feeling a lot more with it now though. Loads of housework to do today as I did nothing over the weekend - not even put a load of washing going....how slovenly am I!
3 machine loads done and out on the line, washing up done, beds airing.
To do; Dust and hoover all through the house, clean kitchen floor, give bathroom a whizz over, make beds, tidy computer desk, make some rolls, file some paperwork, do some online banking, gets my books up to date and file tax return online.
Brekkie - Cereal for DD's - DH has breakfast and lunch meetings so will come home stuffed.
Lunch - Cold chicken fajhita wrap (left overs from last night), Ham and salad wraps/fruit etc for dd's.
Dinner - Jacket potato with HM coleslaw, cheese and beans.
Hope you all have a nice day."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -

Morning all
I'm w***ing from home today, but clearly my laptop still thinks it's bank holiday & isn't working. I've got no email & am killing time waiting for the IT helpdesk to call me back.
Plumber no. 2 has just arrived to crack on with the bathroom, so fingers crossed we don't have the same problems with this one as we did with the last one. With any luck I'll be able to have a bath by the weekend! :T
Shez - go for it with the job, if it doesn't work out you can leave, but if not you'll always be wondering "what if?"
AussieLass - congrats with the house sale. We'll keep everything crossed for you
Moggins - good luck with quitting. You can do it
SOMO1 - love the budgies namesI have a very strange irrational fear of birds (it's the flapping); even budgies would have me quivering in the corner!
S'pose I'd better find something to - expenses are due in this week so I'd better sort out all those receipts................
Have a lovely day folks0 -
Morning
Well I for one am OFF W**K for the rest of this week but I am going to try not to go on about it too muchAm also going to try to resist the temptation to spend all day in bed surfing MSE and watching daytime talk shows!
I did stay up to watch the snooker last night but ended up nodding off in the middle of the winning frame  then had a weird dream about being in a little house mounted on a boat in the middle of a lake, sharing it with the captain and crew of the boat. Later, a sudden storm whipped up with huge waves, and the house/boat was almost capsized, and the crew took it back into portThere were other elements of the dream too - I was singing Bach with one of my regular choirs, and my sister did something that averted a disaster and was presented with a half case of champagne as a thankyou.
Today currently looks like this: Spend a couple of hours tidying up. Find my passport photos so I can fill in the application form for my Proms season ticket. Make spaghetti&paprika beef as per recent thread on this site, assuming the beef is still OK (took it out of the freezer on Sunday evening and meant to cook it yesterday but didn't as housemate took me out for lunch). Go into London and head for the Albert Hall (to hand in the Proms form) and Cadogan Hall (to book a ticket for a concert in person, thus avoiding £2.50 booking fee!) If time, while in the Chelsea area, check out the posh charity shops at the tail end of the King's Road. Go to the Barbican, book some tickets for various things (once again avoiding booking fee), meet up with XBF and stay for a concert (bargain tickets - top price only £15 - we're in the middle of the sixth row for £10!) What was that MushyPeas was saying about London having a culture of going out every night?
Rest of week will be along the following lines:
Wednesday: bargainous haircut in the morning, cuppa over at PP's place in the afternoon
Thursday: investigate new local farmer's market in the morning, cleaning/tidying/cooking in the afternoon
Friday: being picked up by JackieO and off to Blackpool for an OS Party Weekend!
Shez - it was me and Snowy that were talking about perhaps meeting up in LondonI can't see why you shouldn't join in, but we will have to see what my work schedule will permit (I'll have some lateish evenings that week!) so we might have to end up meeting up in shifts
BTW Snowy, lunchtimes aren't the best for me as I'm not allowed to drink during the working day (strict company policy). If we do manage to get something sorted out, Bankside restaurant near my office is reasonably priced and last time I looked it did BOGOF on cocktails from 5 till 7
Moggins - best of luck giving up smoking!!
Right, gotta go, have a lovely day everybody

Morning lovelies :hello:
Had an early night last night cos I was exhausted and slept through until DS1 bounced in on me at about 6.30am. I feel so much better, although I have a sore knee - I don't remember twisting it but it is my bad knee anyway, so who knowsWe went to the village fair in Waddington yesterday - had a fab time and spent waaayyy too much money (most for charity tho). Did buy some gorgeous HM lancashire and cranberry cheese and a rhubarb, rose and vanilla preserve which is to die for (Accrington Stanley special
)
I am child free for the first time in over 3 weeks :j :j School is back and DS2 has a full day at pre-school, so nearly 6 hours to myself. However, I have to go next door shortly because we have to sort out re-surfacing the road (we are unadopted) and I was chosen as chairwomanOnly by default, not cos I wanted it BTW
I would like to go for a bike ride later too - it will depend on the weather, because whilst I can cope with a bit of rain, I'd rather not get soaked through (wuss, I know) Have the usual loads of washing to do, DW is ready for switching on and must get the gammon steaks out of the freezer - will check the recipe thread for inspiration.
Aussielass - congrats on the house :j
moggins - you can do it, and we'll be here to chivvy you along. I put my daily ciggie spend in a big jar for a month - it soon mounts up then set up a standing order for that much into a svings account
snowy - hope you don't have a bad head this morning
PP - ((hugs)) to you anyway
Hope the rest of you have good days and good nights too. Off to switch my various appliacnes on and go off and talk about the merits of tarmacing the centre strip as opposed to the full width of our road. Oh, the high life in the Ticklemouse road :rotfl:
Catch you all later.
