Got a call from my friend yesterday about the car. It will cost at least £500 to fix, so won't bother, now I'm looking to either sell it or scrap it, but won't get much more than £100....:(

Need to buy lights for my bike now.

Sorry to hear that you have to sell your car

Ah well, I'm sure I'll manage fine. After all, I do live in a city. Planning to keep saving my petrol/tax/insurance/maintenance money in my car account and should have enough in April time to buy another cheap run around. I will actually relish the challenge to be without a car. It's really not essential for me, esp when BF can drive us to walks etc.

£10.95 out of the £18 into s.loan. Only £23.17 to find now.
£17.33 profit coming from amazon next week, plus £8.48 from paypal and £10 from virgin scratchie, so I will make it. :)
Any extra I make will be distributed with one of my other 'needs', holiday fund, car account etc...

It's great that a car isn't essential for you. I have lived in cities for about 10 year so haven't needed a car but OH is going to learn how to drive after Xmas and then we are hoping to get one as he has a bit of a trek to work and also needs to get to band practice once a week, which is a huge trek.

I love the convenience and the freedom a car gives, so won't be without one for too long I hope, but it is entirely managable without. :)

Yeah, I can't wait until we get one. Neither of us have ever had a car so it will be lovely to be able to hop in and head off somewhere.

Well done on all your earnings!

It will be great CMD. Hope you'll afford a decent car.

Credit cards are ridiculous. I've almost doubled my balance on my virgin cc, but found out today that the minimum payment has only gone up by £2.77!!! Thankfully I'm glued up and was going to pay more than the minimum anyway, but you can just see how people get into trouble with them.

Talking of cars - what would a decent one cost? We would be wanting something like a polo or Toyota Yaris (5 door). It can be a few years old but want something reliable. Any idea of the cost?

Yeah - just paying the minimum payment can get people into a lot of debt and ensure that it takes them years to get out of it.

I'm not very good with or glued up about cars. I've always had old ones (only bought 3 myself so far), my old one was N-reg so '96. I guess if you're looking for newish one, you won't get below 3K and possibly more like 5k, but better ask someone who knows something about cars. :D

Just updated my snowball and if I'd just paid the minimum, it would take me 1200months to pay off...:rotfl: not funny really, but it kind of is. :D

Thanks Tirliattan - 5-6K was what I kind of thought

1200 is madness isn't it? It must be terrible to be in a situation whereby you can only afford the minimum payments
