  • Hi Chums well as I had overspent again (DGS's guitar strings ) I have £13 47 to last until next Tuesday. So today I bought a dozen eggs and a 4 pinta milk from Icelands total cost £2.00 and then as I had to go to Strood to pick up a permit for parking from my local council I decided to go into the Morrisons there .I have never been in one before as they are a bit too far for me normally to shop in ( around 6 miles away). I must say I wasn't very impressed, by the prices as I was comparing them to what I see normally in MrT's or Sainsbobs (my local stores) But I did get a whole cucumber and a loaf of bread and some mushrooms for £1.15 altogether so it wasn't too bad.So I now have £10.32 to last until next week. But nothing to buy so with luck I will just about make it with £120.00 for four weeks (fingers crossed ), but I did have some unexpected buys that I wouldn't normally have .
I'm amazed by how well everyone has done and how keen we are.So one more week to go for me until the end of the month. Still shopping from my freezer and store cupboards thank goodness.yesterday I got two and a half litres of leek and tattie soup out of the leeks from Aldi's and some spuds that had to be used up as they were begining to sprout thats stashed in the freezer in some Lakeland soup bags for next week. Tonight I have a sheperds pie from the freezer that was made with some left over mince from my Lasagne from last week.I streeetched it out to make two portions from the leftover minced beef sauce so its a free meal tonight. I am also going to do some banana custard for pudding as I have some that should be eaten up in the next couple of days.
kep up the good work ladies we are doing great .Firefox you must eat properly although I know you probably don't fancy it. Even a little jacket spud or some scrambled egg on toast, a little comfort food won't hurt
Greent I do hope your OH finds something I know how frightening it is when the man loses his job My late OH has a spell of 13 months back in the 1980s when things were tough, but you will get through it and I have my fingers crossed for you.
    Good luck again folks

  • Oh dear I've blown the budget this month

I reduced it to £130 and I've blown it at £199.35

I can see where I have gone wrong as I've gone through the reciepts. A couple of £15 spends at Mr T's when I was p*ssed off at work, then some thoughtless spending on things I didn't need at all  Need to learn my lesson and leave my purse at home.

I will need some milk for the rest of the month which is just this week and starts again next Mon for the GC and some veg too I think as I had to chuck a load of mouldy stuff out yesterday and was well p*ssed off about that too  Just when I had been getting things under control a bit more and I blew it

On the plus side I will have to declutter the freezer this week for tea, make up some soup if needed out of what is left. Frozen soup portions for lunch, kippers (lunch or tea), 2 chick pea curry portions

In the freezer I have peas, green sliced beans, chopped peppers - no I won't buy any veg yet, I'll use these up first. Frozen salmon fillets, chips for another meal

Does a combination of salmon, peppers, double cream, cheese or cheese sauce and pasta go together?

    Meals for this week
Salmon/pasta combo OR veg and rice
Fish fingers and chips and peas
chick pea curry and rice x 2
Salmon and chips and peas and beans

Then buy a bit more veg for the following and more

Sat/ Sun roast chicken and left rubberise left overs
    Sat/Sun shin beef stew

Need to write a very careful shopping list for next weekend, I am determined to be under budget in Oct :D

  • Um, can I declare now for Oct? And join properly then? If so, I'd like to start with €500 for the month. As while we have a good few stores in, Oct is usually when baking supplies come on good specials, and there will be a lot less veggies coming from the garden so will have to buy more, and freezer is almost out of meat too. That's for me, DH and DD (aged 3 & 9 months, eats like a horse), and in Ireland so a lot dearer than UK.
    GC 2010 €6,000/ €5,897

    GC 2011:Overall Target: €6,000/
    €5,442 by October

Back on the wagon again in 2014
    Apr €587.82/€550 May €453.31 /€550

... the vets bills have come in at just over £560 so far this month ...

 hope you get that sorted Cheryl, I'm sure you'll do it with no bother, you're so disciplined with your spends

I splurged on a new kettle and toaster but that's not from GC budget, and I'm hoping to get by without spending anything on food at all this week, unless a chicken tikka pasty jumps into my hand as I pass the butcher's on wednesday ... :o
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D

I have a knot in my stomach that makes swallowing nigh on impossible. :( But I will try some scrambled eggs later, thank you.

  • Feel better now I've done a freezer inventory and there's tons in there of thngs I has forgotton about. Easily 2 weeks meals. Tonight using up some slightly OOD yoghurt in a lentil dahl with chapatis and brown rice that I have had for aaaaaagges (I really need to use this up - it will take quite a while!)

Just need some potatoes to make some mash and try the boston baked beans that I froze ages ago (at least it will free up some space in the freezer and some containers!)

Lesson well and truly learnt - stop buying what you don't really need! Stick to your shopping lists again and stop browsing in the supermarkets!

Another £7.79 spent n Morrisons with a little more to get from Aldi tomorrow. Away at the weekend so should save a bit too.

£125 for October is my aim - I doubt we'll be away hardly at all but as I'm on a low carb diet it's gonna be tight with all that meat!
